Hi All, Sadly about to part with my 08 1098. I have owned it for about 6 years. I am moving onto something comfier for me and able to take a pillion etc. Looking around the values are all over the place. What would a very nice base 1098 in red with 12750 miles be worth before I start advertising or letting it go as a part ex? Thanks
Try looking on eBay, Autotrader and MCN on line. eBay has a function where you can look at what has sold and at what price. If you are looking at another Ducati, I suspect the dealer will underwrite the bike with a trader for trade in value so that won’t represent its true open market value. Andy
Thats what's throwing me andy, cheapest on ebay £6400 then they rise considerably, cheapest on MCN £8k plus. Values appear to be all over the place but of course it depends on condition. Just wondering if the dealer is kicking me in the pants at 5k. Pencilled in for a belt and fluid service next month, wondering if I should continue with that and advertise it for £6500........
I got 5K for mine trade in. 8000 miles showroom condition in yellow but needed belts and a service. The dealer sold it within a week and had loads of interest at 7K.
Okay, trade in is a game, there will only be so much in the price of the new bike that is profit for the dealer. He will either give you a good discount OR a good trade in. You do not get 2 bites at the same cherry. The eBay function allows you to look back over several months to what has actually sold and at what price. £5k actually sounds not bad but I bet you the dealer hasn’t reduced the cost of the new bike by much, if any. The issue is how quickly you need to sell. If you have time to wait, advertise high with best offer. If you want to do a deal quickly, you need to compromise. You will often see on here the phrase ‘I’ve been offered £xxxx trade in, give me £yyyy and get a bargain’. If you think £6500 is fair and I don’t think you are far off the mark, stick with it. You can always ask your dealer for a trade in price, a financed price and a cash price and leave the offer on the table until the last minute. There is usually more commission in finance than a trade in so you should be able to negotiate a better price. If however, it is near month end and the dealer has not hit his target, cash becomes a lot more attractive. Hope this helps. Andy
All good info, thanks guys. I am not in a huge rush, a couple of months is ok to get sorted. I think I will wait and get the full service and belts done next month (earliest I could get it in) and advertise it. I will put it up on here first for a few weeks.
