Does it have ht leads or stick coils? Front stick coils on these bikes are very vulnerable to the elements and often give trouble
It's got HT leads, the coil packs are different to normal bikes from what I can feel. The front coil pack is above the back of the mudguard. I'll have to check them as well tomorrow.
So the update so far. Coil packs are fine, fuel pump and filter are fine it's still not wanting to stay at 4k rpm. It dies back to idle then won't rev up for a bit. Then it'll do the same. Do I have to adjust the TPS as I have changed the CPS? I really need help. I'm going insane trying to figure this out.
Can I do this manually or do I have to get it plugged in? I know you can move the sensor by hand. Many thanks.
Hi all, Can I do a TPS manually or do I have to get it plugged in? I know you can move the sensor by hand. Many thanks. #45Today at 6:44 PM
Yeah, I've changed the plugs, checked the coil packs, there are no error messages on the dash, checked the fuel filter. It idles fine about 1.5k it's as soon as you try and hold the revs at 4k it doesn't like it. It'll hold at 3 & 2 but as soon as you or a load on it'll be ok for about 2m then it doesn't have enough power to pull off.
I hate to say it, but one of the causes that would suit those symptoms would be a faulty TPS or faulty connection of same. New CPS will not affect timing if same spec as original. Other causes that suit symptoms are blocked fuel filter or low fuel pressure/ruptured fuel hoses. The latter used to be a common failure (internal fuel tank hoses only) on early injected Ducati and some Italian cars also, not aware of this happening on early Multi but can’t rule it out, when you changed fuel filter, I guess you looked at hoses for splits though.
Sounds a lot like firing on only one cylinder. Have you tried removing a plug lead from each cylinder in turn to see what difference it makes? Did you check your new and old CPSs against each other to make sure they are the same length?
Hi, thanks for the info. The hoses are fine, when I unclipped the fuel hose fuel shot out. There are no leaks and pressure seems to be building. So a faulty TPS would cause these issues? I can change it and see what happens? If not then sounds like fuel pressure?
When I changed the battery the bike was charging ok, now it's stopped charging so I'm assuming reg/rec. Would this cause any of these issues?
I checked the length and it's the same, used the same shim for air gap. I have 8 spark plugs and have mixed and matched to see if if there are any faults in any in the cylinders, it's the same result every time. You can rev the bike above 4k, it'll do it but don't know why it's suddenly decides to die, I'm leaning toward fuelling/TPS now. It does give a hiss if you try and compensate to much when it starts lowering the rpms.
Re: above - air leaks another possibility worth checking out, if people don’t attach airbox with patience and/or overtighten jubilee clips of same then easy to get an air leak here.
Good. You haven't actually said though if you have disconnected each plug in turn to make sure it's not firing on only one cylinder. Imho, it's vital to establish if the problem is affecting both cylinders or just one. It might be worth checking the CPS connector and giving it s good spray and wiggle in case there's some oxidation affecting the signal.
Will the Hi, I was on it again this afternoon, I'm thinking a fuelling issue now. A good way to see if it's firing on both cylinders is to touch the exhaust coming off each cylinder. They are both piping hot. This would indicate to me they are both firing. When you open the throttle it's like water is hitting the cylinders, it makes a poof like sound, like it's not firing but it's fine on idle. either something is breaking down whilst under load or it's not getting the fuel it needs to fire, it might a coil pack breaking down or a blocked fuel filter. It's getting plugged in on Wednesday so we'll see what they say. I did want to sort it before then but it's really illuding me. The CPS is brand new, i was leaning towards changing the TPS as well, i thought maybe it's an injector issue but put injector cleaner in and it hasn't made a difference.
Hi, does anyone know what fuel pump will fit as an oem part? Is there something I can pick up locally that might also be used in cars, like the fiat CPS. Many thanks.
can you borrow a fuel pressure gauge from the local garage? you will need something to rejoin the fuel line as you will need to cut into it to connect the gauge.. i guess you will be looking for about a constant 2.5bar of pressure,
