  1. One thing that perplexed me about the bike is I expected the engine no., being an R/RS, to be different to mine. Otherwise how do they know in the factory that the internals are different to the standard engine? @Exige can you shed any light?

  2. Nope - you need @Android853sp 's knowledge for these I think. But the advert says it has Ducati Authentication. As the bike has been totally restored with over 200 photo's I can only imagine it is genuine, so long as the Ducati Authentication stacks up.

  3. I'm no Andy, but for what it's worth Falloon (4th Ed) pp196-7:

"New for 1998 was the 748R, primarily constructed for the Supersport World Cup. The tight regulations forbade any alteration to pistons, camshafts, valve sizes or crankshaft, so most of the special parts of the 748R were confined to weight saving. Only 20 of these 170kg 748Rs were constructed for 1998. However, other engine parts were considerably uprated. The 748R received the 916R gearbox and sintered clutch plates with stiffer springs, as well as nimonic valves and the same water and oil radiators. As with the 916R, only a 180 watt alternator was used and the wiring system located the '1.6' CPU in the front fairing. All the bodywork, sump guard, clutch cover, dashboard, chainguard, exhaust guards, mufflers and intake manifolds were in carbon fibre. With its racing rev counter the 748R was very much a 916R with a 108bhp engine and standard wheels, brakes and front forks. When prepared by Gio.Ca.Moto. for Paolo Casoli, power was increased to 117bhp at the rear wheel."

  4. Weren't a lot of the engine internals made out of titanium as well? Same dimensions but lighter and thus increasing the maximum revs?
