British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Oh look Forum 7 Glid 1 :joy:

  2. Easy peasey :)

  3. Responding to the announcement, Carolyn Fairbairn, director-general of the Confederation of British Industry, described the prospect of no deal as a “sledgehammer for the economy”.

“This tells us everything that is wrong with a no-deal scenario. What we are hearing is the biggest change in terms of trade this country has faced since the mid-19th century being imposed on this country with no consultation with business, no time to prepare,” she told the BBC’s Today programme.

“This is no way to run a country. What we potentially are going to see is this imposition of new terms of trade at the same time as business is blocked out of its closest trading partner. This is a sledgehammer for our economy.”

... but of course, the hard line Brexiters in the ERG and here know better.

  4. Blimey. I've woken to a load of scary mary's The 29th is is the date I'm looking for given some are asking for an extension and barniers face this morning, I don't think an extension is a given.

So far though, we are seeing what some of us warned about and the consequences far beyond brexit. When the house forgets it is there for the people and no more so than at any time than a majority democratic peoples national vote, then they have set the precedent that parliamentarians can overturn any democratic majority peoples national vote they wish, then those who allowed them to do so, should not be surprised when they do it again

  5. Laughable.
Tariffs are only the start of the next fiasco if no deal. ffs where will the Government find revenue? What wages will people have to work for to make us competitive exporting? Welcome to the world of Tory de regulation. Meanwhile our products will still need to conform to EU standards to export our goods to them.
    The benefit is what?

But with the fantastic track record the Tory party has recently with fantastic new deals (must be up their sleeves because we dont know about them yet..) all will be good. You know good like, lets arrange more ferries with a company that has no ships....lets pay £33 million to Eurotunnel because we cant organise a p1ss up in a brewery.
Lets find another cool £1billion for DUP. Oh wait, we dont need to pay that now if they are not going to back us:confused:

You seriously want to let this lot loose with no deal....you need your head examined.o_O:thinkingface:

  6. Again I'm not saying everything is right, nor am I saying everything is wrong, but to try and align Climate change to Economists forecasting certain doom prior to them even knowing or having sight of tariffs is a little far fetched.

Climate change exists, that much is true so that's that put to bed (I'm not a flat earther either by the way)

Tariffs also exist going in to the EU from ROTW suppliers, that is also true as it protects eu manufacturers

With no deal agreed with the EU then yes they too 'could' choose to apply tariffs to some if not all of products shipped on to the EU, that's also true

The UK has chosen to not apply import tariffs on at least 87% of goods, presumably goods not manufacturered or grown in the UK

The service sector, well I'm afraid that's anyone's guess at the moment and I don't work in finance.

But I do work within a business that imports a range of product including Textiles, Capital equipment, consumable items and many other products from all areas of the globe.

Off the top of my head :

    France
    Germany
    Italy
    Belgium
    Holland
    Japan
    America
    Korea
    Bangladesh
    China
    Turkey
    And more

Much of what we're involved in makes its way to either businesses or average everyday consumers, very likely many of the people on this forum (depending what brand of clothing you all wear or how it was produced)

We currently pay tariffs on certain items, we may cease to pay such tariffs on some items, yet may soon pay tariffs on previous items we didn't in the past.

It's now a math game in which some you'll win and others you'll lose

  8. According to companies house in 2018, there are 5.18 million micro business's, and 5.7 million sme's
The cbi represents 190,000 business's,so you'll forgive me if the cbi's opinion should be listened too but you shouldn't forget how many they do not represent and just who they represent, those who tend to be the multinationals.

  13. One thing that this whole thread proves, facts do not change opinions. People look to news outlets that reinforce their point of view and ignore those that dont.
No matter how many sources you quote, how many times the Government shoot themselves and the country in the foot, some people will not accept the facts.
