1200 Protective Paint Film Disappointment

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Boomshanka, Mar 20, 2019.

  1. I had this protective paint film stuff put on my Multi, well I feel a bit disappointed to be honest, for what it cost, it was £215+vat and I expected it to be covering a lot more of the paintwork, it looks pretty crap and there are some awful design flaws in my opinion, the panier sticker has this weird line cutout so it bends around the shape I assume. and you can really see its there, very visible.

Not wanting to moan, more a warning if anyone is thinking about it, have a good look at it before you spend (waste) your money.

  7. I've had Ventureshield on all my sports bikes since 2010. Like you say it's only applied in certain areas but those areas are key/susceptible areas and it does the job of stopping chips from stuff kicked up from the road.

  11. For less than decorative areas such as forks, front facing parts of engine/frame bars, I've often used old faithfull heli tape. Cheap, the better one 3m takes the knocks not bad and when I get ready to sell, a bit of work and it's off.

On panniers, I've just always accepted if they get used, they get bashed, otherwise you would ask louis vuitton to build them instead of Ducati

  12. What kit did you purchase ?
Xpel do one for around £130. Need to fit it yourself.
I got mine installed at dealers back in 2013 when new. Still decent and it protects the key areas. This kit never came with the pannier protection though.

  13. It is just listed as per thread title on the receipt

My local ducati specialist has a fella that comes in and does it, I only have myself to blame, the day I bought the bike I went in and asked for the best way to protect it, wheel nut sliders/mushrooms/thingies, engine bars and this plastic film was the answer, all good advice I reckon and they even showed me a bike with the protective stickers, maybe it was because it was red and mine is silver that it looked kind of invisible, maybe I just didnt look close enough, but because it was almost invisible I assumed it was covering almost all of the paint.

I also never took any notice of the price I suppose as I thought it was like half that price, I am purposely not mentioning the shop as I am being negative but dont blame them, they are terrific

    Thanks

  14. Yep, also had ventureshield on my bikes since ~2008. Its saved my paint from the usual stone chips from following other riders (the film gets marked, but not the paint beneath it). I wish I had put some film on my carbon PP screen now as that is chipped to buggery compared to the paintwork : unamused:

I think it might show more on your paint colour as it looks like yours is the matt finish, but at the end of the day any film will have an edge that you can see.

That seems like a lot of money for the kit, and sounds like the fitter made a bunch of money. They are usually around £60 to £90 depending on size of the kit, and the same to fit it.
Personally, having had a kit fitted by an installer some years ago that was clearly off centre, I always do it myself now.

This link has a bit of info, including a link to how to care for it.

And this link has a guy on here that supplies / fits the kits (not sure he is still a member, but might come in handy).

  15. I must admit, the small amount of protection around the ducati badge looks like someone has tried fitting a 4 year olds t-shirt on Dwayne Johnson

  16. I don't believe there is a point to protect the paint film on a mass produced bike...at the end of the day it is just some paint on a plastic piece, not a Picasso.
Couple of stone chips and small scrathes is absolutely accepted.
Seeing the price of 3M protection + professional fitting costs, it might be cheaper in the long run to re-spray the nose fairing and buy a set of OEM decals for couple of ££.

  17. Well after some motorway miles today, i feel a bit happier that the stickers were there i suppose, no harm done

As a side note, this bike is bloody amazing! I feel emotional about how good it is, very hard to imagine how they could improve on this, id really like a diavel with the forward pegs as well but cant think it will be as good. Big smile
