1200 Is This The Right Way To Fit A Kriega Us30 Tail Pack?

  1. A bit off topic here, but I removed the crud-catcher on my 2013 1200S, but put it back on after the first ride out in the rain. It's incredibly effective. I wish my Enduro had one.

As for the Kriega straps, I have exactly the same set-up on my bike. For now I've looped the excess straps around the grab handles and tidied up with a cable tie. However, if I end up using the Kriega regularly I might just cut the straps down to the required length.

Only issue I had was last time out I didn't tighten one corner down enough and the bag slipped sideways. It didn't come off. I was carrying quite a bit of stuff - laptop, ipad, shoes, a couple of days worth of clothes - so there was enough weight that it shifted about quite a bit. First time it's ever happened though - in future I'll just be a bit more mindful of pulling the straps tight before I set off.

Also, I put my US-30 on in line with the bike, rather than the orientation you have used. I think your way might be better, as the straps are more inboard that way, so less likely to slip off the corners.

Overall, it's a great set-up, and I wish I had space to fit another one!

  2. Yep - I bought an unused one off @Discovery on here, haven’t fitted it yet, might wait for next winter now so can have a look if there is a part number stamped on it if you’re more than just curious?

  3. Yes - it must go, just fill in the holes with either the original nuts or some of the plastic plugs (part # 87240561A) that fit in the grab rail if you don’t have a top box.

Beware tail tidies if you use your panniers - some of them (evotech)lift your indicators so the cutouts become misaligned. They look smart though.

  4. Just got an SW MOTECH RACK and strapped the Kreiga to it. Left the excess on till I am sure how to orient the bags correctly. Simple, elegant and looks like a lady in lace :p

  5. I was using my Kriega US30 tailpack last week. I have attached the loops to the top box frame, so I can pack more, without using panniers. Also, this permits me to slide the loops up and back, to just use the top box mounting plate, rather than the pillion area.

You can orient the Kriega bags either way, you just need to adjust the straps accordingly and make sure you use both retaining clips. (The bags are 'supposed' to be in line with the bike.) Tape the excess loop up, rather than cutting it short.

  6. Yes I am going to give it some trial and error till I know how I like the bags to be oriented. the rack is clamped to the grab rails so they dont have any frame work (the whole reason I allowed a rack on my bike) or else I am not a fan of frame work or top boxes. Atleast I have no need for them.

  7. I would also take some rok-straps with you in case of emergency. I've had one of the plastic clips on my us-30 pack fail, and also a strap snap during a trip (didnt notice it was rubbing).
Having a backup strap that doesnt take up much room ensures the bag can still be secured. Also handy for when the wife buys more than will fit in the panniers :yum

On my R1 I fit the bag in line, but on other hire bikes like a GS I have fitted it across the bike (in line on the seat got in the way when stood up going down hill)
