British Indy: What Happens Now?

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

  1. That's a relief!

EU directives will soon become law in EU countries, of course, but the UK is leaving, so that's all right.

The UK will likely leave via the EU's Withdrawal Agreement, which will prevent the UK engaging in trade deals that the EU does not approve, and may result in the UK being so economically challenged (as it will be unable to effect any change of direction of EU law), it will be forced to seek re-entry into the EU - whereupon we lose the use of our memes, so that's all right.

    Wait. What?

  2. What's your source Loz? EU law does override UK law but I reiterate what I said in an earlier post, the EU agreeing to extend Exit Day to either 12/4 or 22/5 was not a law. When the EU passes a law - a Regulation as they call it - it applies to ALL member states at the same time, extension of Exit Day cannot therefore be an EU Regulation. Your source is flawed I'm afraid.

Sure Bercow said EU law trumps UK law and (as per my other post) it does but his statement was not about the extension of Exit Day.

Can you point me to where you got the info from please?

  3. My accesses to sources is chaotic at best. If I can locate a reliable one, I will post.

However, I am more included to accept your soothing, reassuring take on the matter as it is much more to my taste : o )

The point is essentially moot in any event, though. We will now leave on WA terms which means we will rejoin the EU within five years. No more memes.

  4. Absolutely fin, Westminster is a world heritage site, holyrood looks like a Glaswegian tennament block

  5. Or move to a new one in Milton Keynes: go join the concrete cows.

  7. The Palace of Westminster would make an excellent heritage theme park and is centrally placed in London to suit busy foreign tourists. It isn’t fit for purpose though as a debating chamber for 650 odd MPs, nor the Lords.
A new Government Centre in Milton Keynes would provide an opportunity to create a building fit for the new millennium in the deprived midlands, preferably without Puginesque cod gothick.
Potentially for a lot less money, plus it would really piss off the yanks that it’s too far from their new embassy in Sarf Lunnon.

  8. I believe I have pieced this together.

TM has chosen to interpret that that the extension granted by the EU, in order that TM can get the EU's WA over the line, takes precedent over the Art 50 date of 29 March.

When Bill Cash MP asked TM whether the AG had confirmed the legality of this, I gather TM's response was less than useful.

We can argue whether the 29 Mar is legally the date we leave the EU, but if TM and the EU decide between them that the law states otherwise, the legal position is irrelevant unless it can somehow be enforced.

Apologies, for the confusion. As a lawyer, you will be looking at "the Law". As a weary follower of politics, I look instead at "what they will get away with", so we are in part talking at cross purposes.

    Agreed?

  9. It’s well placed for the new Oxford Cambridge Expressway, so you could cancel the northern half of HS2.

  10. I have long argued (as older members of the Forum will attest) that the Houses of Parliament needs to be bull-dozed, to make way for something more modern and fit-for-purpose.

I have amended my position somewhat in the last couple of weeks. I now insist that that all MPs are present in the House, when it is bull-dozed.

  11. I can’t support that view as it’s too similar to IS and other groups whose tactics are abhorrent to me, but Douglas Adams definitely had something suitable in mind when he dispatched all the administrators, middle management and telephone sanitisers by Ark 3 to the nascent Earth.

  12. In the spirit of compromise, I agree with your proposal.

As long as a bull-dozer is sent along with them on Ark 3.

  14. Is a quorum spicy?

    I had curry earlier, I mustn't over-do it.

  17. Quite fruity too though.

  18. How much do you spend on crack?

The European Economic Area ( EEA ) The EEA includes EU countries and also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. ... Switzerland is neither an EU nor EEA member but is part of the single market - this means Swiss nationals have the same rights to live and work in the UK as other EEA nationals

  19. Why can't they just use Wimbledon? Its got a roof now, plenty of seating, restaurant, bar and a great spot for Bercow to sit. Whats the problem with that?

Then May can sell off that old cathedral looking gaffe to one of her "Donors" for a £1 -save the nation a fortune!- who could turn it into an apartment block for rich Russians.
