Looking at buying an 1198S and have seen a few SP's advertised. What's the SP got over the S and what does the R have over the SP? Cheers in advance!
No idea on this one,but what i do know is that your avatar should be in the Strangely attractive Or just plain weird thread
The SP has more power I believe, but also has alloy tank, quickshifter and other sparkly bits over the standard 1198S. From memory it had an 'R' engine in it, but others will confirm this.
I thought it was just alloy tank, ohlins TTX, slipper and QS. Pretty sure it never had more power or an R engine. Its just an 1198 with some more bling.
1198S is a beast of a bike, as above i believe the SP differs with alloy tank ,quick shifter and slipper clutch ,power is the same i think...either bike will produce a very broad ear to ear grin
I alway understood it to be this, and also (from reading on here) stay away from the SP (or don't use the quickshifter). Didn't a couple of people have to replace gearboxes as they were/are "made of chocolate"?
Definitely not the R engine. Same bore and stroke (size) bit different internals. The R has Pankl Ti conrods for a kick off. The R has more poke due to it's higher state of factory tune (probably in the heads). I think it pumps out 180bhp standard, which is about 10bhp more than the SP. Both are mental grunty, the R slightly more so.
I recommend this book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ducati-109...d=1642204031&s=books&sprefix=ducati+10&sr=1-1 It's an excellent read and it tell you about all the differences between the standard, S, and R bikes. Although there is no mention of an SP. It also has a chapter on the 848 which is not listed on the cover..
