1260 Ohlins Professional Set Up. Is It Worth It?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by spanish, Mar 31, 2019.

  1. Have'nt touched the Ohlins on my 1260 and it rides well.
On my list to visit an Ohlins specialist and wondered if it is a "must".
Also any recommendations. Aware of set ups in Stowmarket, Braintree and Stillington,

  2. If it ain’t broke, why try and fix it ? Unless you sit outside the average range, so you are 8 stone or 17 stone, the pre load is there or there abouts and unless you feel the suspension is too firm or too squidgy under braking or on poor terrain or you feel the need for sports bike firmness, spend your money on something else mate. 3. I haven’t had mine done yet, but the last time I had a bike with Öhlins front and rear I had http://www.reactivesuspension.com set it up for my weight and riding style.

From memory, Gareth charged me £45 for ride in ride out and it was well worth it. Not life changing but you could certainly notice the difference.

My 1260, once run in, will be going for the same treatment.

Given the cost, why wouldn’t you?

  4. Were the changes performed by your suspension specialist much different than the suggested settings in the owners manual?
I was thinking about doing the same but hemming and hawing since I weigh in the 160~180 lbs range.
I can see a benefit to that if the rider is outside that typical average Ducati rider weight.

  5. Visit MCT. I’m waiting to get my 1200 PP DVT set up by him. He’s transformed every bike I’ve owned mostly just through having it set up properly.

  6. The problem is tho.....unless its way out most riders cant tell its not 100%, Factory settings are extremely generic, and will vary from bike to bike even in the same model.
a set up isnt that much money and can transform a bike from yesh its fine to thats bloody good !
I've owned bikes with std Ohlins suspension, and Kayaba stuff re valved and set up for me and I can tell you the Kayaba stuff knocked the stock Ohlins into a cocked hat.
decent suspension set up is worth every penny IMHO and £ for £ is a far better investment than any go faster bit or carbon bling...just my opinion of course ;)

  7. Set your sag front and rear and go from there. Just need a mate, a tape and the tools to adjust. Can take a bike you think is ok to one that is transformed. Both ways!!

Then you can just make small adjustments from standard if you find it doing something you don’t like, such as running wide in corners or diving too much etc

  8. It's money well spent regardless of equipment fitted. I have had a couple of bikes set up based on my very average ability, weight, riding style and the type of roads I ride on so the sort of info the factory don't have. In each case the bike was much improved. It is the best value for money modification I can think of.

  9. I’m not sure, he twirled some screwdrivers/spanners and away I went.

He did mention though that most manufacturers’ test riders weigh about 9st wet through!

  10. if you can get through to Darren that is :)

  11. just booked my PP in with Darren @ MCT. 3 month wait!!

  12. Yes really difficult to contact MCT Suspension. Will continue to try but, if three months wait to have a set up, may try elsewhere.
Anyone used BG Motorsport at Silverstone?

  13. Might be too far from you, but you could also try Steve Jordan Motorcycles, near Leatherhead, Surrey. KT23 4RQ

  14. I had my original 1200S done by the Ohlin tech at P&H, made a big difference

  15. No idea where you are, Paul @PGP can I’m sure help if you are south enough, or Nelly knows a thing or two out of Nottingham

But tbh I’d just buy a mate (or local forum member) a bacon sarnie and just do the sag yourself as a starter

  16. Difficulty with contacting many of the suspension specialists presently is the imminent arrival of the race season.
Most of these guys will be flat out building bespoke set-ups for racers, hence the delay.

  17. And what Bradders said...... Bacon butty....h'mmm. Yep, I'm free!
