Hi all. I have an M600 frame. I have a 696 engine. I was thinking about a cheap "shed build" while my S4 eats more money and time than I actually have. Does the 696 engine fit in the M600 frame? Thanks y'all! Alan
Don’t know, but interested? Probably possible, but the swingarm shock combination and carburettors are likely to be a bigger challenge.
I will try a trial fit and post details up. At the moment the engine is not in the same place as the frame. If it stops raining I'll grab the engine and see. It would provide an easy sssa route. I'd probably just use 696 injectors but carb might be easier.
You may have open up the holes in the frame too as I’m sure I read somewhere that the bolt size got bigger around 2000?
Sounds like a fun thing to do. I'll put some photos up tomorrow with the engine in place. Thanks very much.
Now that sounds fun, just a shame it’s still water cooled. I quite fancy an 1100 EVO engine in an M600!
I must admit to looking pictures of this over and wondering how it was done as 999 engines seem to be cheap atm and it seemed like a good idea to put one in my S4 rather than rebuilding the 916. Magic was my conclusion. I think Im going to go double sided swing arm. The Single sided arm seem to hold quite a premium. Nobody wants the double sided 696 arm and they are priced accordingly.
A 999 engine will need the frame to be modded to fit a 999/sbk swingarm. Not really difficult. An 848, 1098 or 916 arm can also be fitted if you want to go single sided
Is the two additions to the frame on your S4 the "magic swing arm mount?" to allow the 1098 to have a swing arm bolt through the frame and then through the engine case and is cut from another bike and welded in? I was considering the 999 for the S4. This 696 is to go in a broken M600 I have in bits. On the single sided note was that the 848, 1098 or 916 swing arm will go on the 696 engine? In another news I have just gone and picked up the 696 engine and its in the back of the car.
I know this doesn't relate to the original question and for this I apologise. Do I purchase this for modification of the S4 frame (I cannot weld so this would be farmed out locally) eBay Link for frame section
lower additions are needed to be welded onto the s4 frame to fit a 999 swingarm. I wouldn't use another frame but make and have welded on new parts. I made two caps for both sides of the engine and welded braces onto the frame. Mount the frame on the engine to get the alignment correct when welding it all up.
Thanks Final_edition. I appreciate the help. I'll get this hybrid built (m600/m696) then look into that one. I'll end up with 2 broken bikes in bits rather just one if I get sidetracked (and I am often do get sidetracked).
