I'm very new to bikes, always loved them but never had one. I've just bought an 848 and owning a Ducati is an absolute dream come true. The bike I've bought has R & G crash bungs/ bobbins on the rear - am I able to use a normal paddock stand on these or do I need a specific single sided swing arm version? I only ask as I have the use of a pair of motogp stands that were used on a gsxr 1000 k4 and wondered if these would be suitable? Many thanks for the help. Andy
Think you might find the spacing between the lugs on your stand are further apart that the bobbins. Also the bobbins appear a lot larger than the ones you get for stands on normal swing arms.
You will have to remove the R&Gs for a single sided stand and I would be happy resting a dual one on the bobbins. I would bite the bullet and buy an Abba stand
No, not single sided. It's one of these..... abba Superbike Stand - product details - Abba Stands, UK I've just invested in one. Good piece of kit. Does take a little longer to use, but MUCH more secure than a conventional Paddock stand.
If you want a stand for a quick bit of chain lubbing and basic maintenance the single sided is best IMHO. Abba is a bit more of a faff to use, bit ideal f you're looking to mess with the swing arm/rear shock. These are well priced and have a good rep, or hold out for a genuine Ducati one. EST Side Paddock Stand Single Swing Arms DUCATI 916 998 | eBay PS.Nice bike...
IMHO, I'd get rid of the crash bobbins altogether off the back wheel. I don't think they'll do much in a crash anyway. Then, you can just use the single sided paddock stand which is really solid.
If i were you i would go for the Biketek stand Biketek Single Sided Swing Arm Rear Paddock Stand For Ducati - New | eBay This has an adjuster to tighten the rear wheel axle onto the stand spindle to prevent the bike sliding off and falling over( as a mate has just done this week).
The biketek unit is a low budget bolt together unit, usefull for occassional use. A one pice rear paddack stand is much more sunstantila and solid. The pin retaining the rear wheel is a fair idea though.
I never use anything but my Abba stand. A few years back I had my Mille on a paddock stand and it broke. Luckily the damage was minor. The Abba stand is very easy to use & I never worry about how safe my 996 is on it. Aesthetically though, single sided swing arm bikes do look cool sat on single sided stands : )
I'd prefer to call it good value rather than low budget. The stand my mate's bike fell off was an R&G item costing well over £100 and it doesn't work anything like as well as my Biketek one.
iv the ducati stand ( bought used from royum ) fantastic bit of kit and of course lets you remove rear wheel etc. ps lovely bike, get the suspension set up for you and enjoy.
