On skyhook you still need to manually set the initial preload, the system works from that base on the front bit fully adjusts preload on the rear
yes it is, I'm talking about the S model. The only think you set manually is the front preload. Check your manual at page 331.
Not had any issues like this at all, always feels stable on both 2013 MTS and the new DVT S model in all types of corners. The DVT will shimmy the bars at 130mph+ (with a top box fitted) in a straight line but so did the 2013 model. If it is in comers I would look closely at tyres and pressures, it really should be stable, if it is not (and is a DVT) get it checked under warranty.
that's because your dealer set it up properly. anyway the issue is around 80/90mph+ only in straight. Cornering is ok and i guess will be even better with the front preload properly set.
I would expect any bike with a top box to show some sign of its presence at some point in the handling stakes. So I reckon it's a normal reaction to having something the bike doesn't like on it.
I was interested in the comment about the front forks. I had similar issues with having to push really hard to get the bike to tip in, however the solution for mine was to set the pre load properly and drop the forks, so that there were 4 rings showing. This made the bike turn in much faster and easier and stopped it running wide. I've never had issues with the bars waggling at any speed.
If your on about my post, then you've read it wrong, I was having to push the bars to stop it turning in so sharp.
Ok, that makes more sense then... Mine was the opposite, not turning in fast enough so I had to really push 'down' on the inside bar.
Sorry, but to be sure, you recommend for an 80kgs that from the factory setting we should close 5 turns, correct? Thank you all in advance
I have discussed this with my dealer and shared these posts. He said suspension would not be set by the dealer. Additionally he reccomends that the suspension is allowed to 'settle in with at least a few hundred miles' before it is adjusted. Just his take....and he races competitively. Also he said try the different settings to see how performance alters then we will make a better informed change. So I will try Touring and Sport with different loads, ie one up, two up, plus luggage etc.
It should be 15kg for every turns (clockwise). 80Kg would be 5 and 1/3. Been today at my dealer: mine was only closed by 1/3, now it's 5 and it's perfect! There also was a software update that I feel has improved both touring and sport map, bike accelerates much better, I was even able to set DTC back to 5 for the touring map and enjoy it as I did before the update with it set at 3.
I changed mine recently, found it lessened the ride (made far more harsh) and raised the front which made the height even more uncomfortable. So I put it back to where it was when I got it
Ok. I can never work this out. Open/closed. I have to set mine to 7 turns according to info above. Do I wind it fully out (anti clockwise) then in 7 clicks? Thanks for the help
fully IN is clockwise and hard info suggests its fully OUT and soft so wind in clockwise the number of turns you need
Just checked mine. Was 1.5 turns in from fully out! 7 turns in (15kg per turn) seems very hard!! Will see when I try it! I set it at 6.5 turns in and it feels so much better on the brakes. Much less dive. But it does feel less stable in the corners at motorway speeds. Going to try it 1 turn higher and see, then 1 turn lower and see (from current setting. Need to look at rear preload to I think.
Did this thread wither? Was quite useful. Having just moved from GS to 1200 DVT MTS (base model) I’m unused to high speed wobbles. Experience so far is that the GS is a better handling beastie.
