Daft question I’m sure Can anyone explain why you would fit a carbon belly oil catch tank which means you can’t run fans?
The belly pan is for racing in case of an engine failure. Track/race bikes don’t need fans. There isn’t a “standard” tank for catching oil.... are thinking the evap canister?
No I’ve bought a bike that has one fitted, it’s been used on track days but I need the fans - I’m just trying to get my head around swapping it back /)
I've been through all this already on 2 bikes over 4 years. What do you need to know? Are you sure the are no fans because the exhaust that's fitted intrudes into the space the fans used to occupy? What exhaust is on it?
Catch tank fitted as I guess someone felt it's more important to catch any fluids that might come out versus the need for fans. Required for racing but not compulsory for trackdays. Its a judgement call I guess. Personally, with 1199 Panigales I'd always go large on the cooloing efforts, having cooked an engine and cracked the block at Jerez in 35C heat. So I'd keep the fan (even though it only really works at speeds less than 30 mph e.g. into paddock, then into garage) or fit a large race rad/oil cooler (way to go - steady 85C, and switch bike off as soon as I'm stopped) Ok, so it's not the Reparto Corse EVO 2 or 3 race system, it's the over-the-counter version. On the EVO 2 race version (which is what your Termi looks like) the front header would intrude slightly into the space occupied by the black plastic fan housing but you can cut an angled corner off the housing, which is what I did. So still possible to run a fan as I've done it on my previous R with EVO 2 Termi. If you fit the fan, you'll have to ditch your carbon catch tray as the tray intrudes into the fan space, and the fan housing needs the original bellypan fittings to bolt to. I wonder if Termi slightly altered the angle of the front header pipe of the over-the-counter version to allow for fan retention as I can't imagine they'd want road riders to bin/modify their fans? It may be that you won't even need to trim the fan housing. With the Termi Reparto Corse EVO 3 exhaust, the front header was elongated into an S shape, to deliver better low down drive, but which consumes the fan space. Which is why I've now got a race radiator and oil cooler and why I asked what exhaust you have. Hope that helps?
Thanks for the info, useful to know. Ill take off the carrbon oil tank, fit the fan and sell the tank on for someone who is more serious track racer type of person
