V4 V4 Speciale V V4r On The Dyno.

  2. Isn't the Speciale the 1100 engine & the R the 1000cc. Higher reving.
     
  3. I’m not really surprised by these results to be honest. The 1103 engine was always going to deliver a stronger midrange.

    I used to operate a dyno for a living. A 5th gear roll on is a way to measure ultimate horsepower but it’s not a great way to tell the characteristics of an engine. I mean, how often do you go from 30 in 5th and run all the way up to red line?

    The results need to be viewed with a 4th gear roll on, a 3rd gear Fast acceleration test (for throttle response) and a 2nd to 6th all gear full throttle acceleration. Overlaying those 3 graphs is a much better way of determining how an engine is going to feel.

    The fuelling he mentions will always be on the rich side when doing such a long drag in a high gear as it puts the fuel injection under more strain.

    It’s also vital to have the torque measured during the process (they mention not having the leads available) then you can really home in on what it’s going to ride like and how they compare.

  4. There would be something wrong if the V4R wasn't biased to track use at higher rpm.

    Still intetesting to see some initial tests though.

  7. Plus power is nothing without control! The old bike still rocks in the midrange!!! By a considerable margin.... And he's still more annoying every time he opens his mouth!

  11. That's a big gap in midrange, more than I expected.
     
  12. So.... The R must be kept on the boil. Nothing new there really. Other than been a fairly pointless road bike.
    Not had a shot on the R yet. My S feels bloody incredibly strong. I think Ducati will have another trick up their sleeve with the gen 2 R.... we’ll see :):upyeah:
     
  13. Not really that surprised. The S with its extra 103cc, has an extra 5mm stroke length. A massive boost to torque/midrange.
    With a set of ti conrods, balanced crankshaft and head tweaking, the S would be beserk... :astonished:

  14. I’ll report on how they both compare when I get back out on mine following running it in and in warmer weather :)
     
  15. Yeah he put it on the dyno with less than 300 mile ... Has not even reach break in . Normally I would be up in arms about that but the Ducati dealership did the runs ... Go figure ...?????
     
  16. In my opinion the V4/ S/ Speciale etc are road biaised bikes. The V4R is after all a race bike, that's been built to WSB rules and win. In order to race it around the world it's Homologated for road use. Bound to rev and be different to the rest of the V4 range.
     
  17. Road biased? With ~200hp at the rear wheel? I don’t think any superbike from any manufacturer is road biased.

  19. Care to bet? I reckon it will be variable valve tech on top of an insane rev limit. So 16k revs but with the midrange of the bigger motor through cam timing changes
