Desmosidici or this?

  1. The Supermono is an ugly bike too but people still like them.

How many 888 Corse's were built compared with the D16?

  2. - 851 Racing (1990) : 20
    - 851 Racing (1991) : 50
    - 888 Racing (1992) : 35
    - 888 Racing (1993) : 46
    - 926 Racing (1994) : 32

    that is a total off 183 compared to 1500 D16's i believe.
i know that not only production numbers say what the value off a bike is.
my '94 916:1451 made,my '94 888 strada:300 made but i know that these bikes will never be worth what some other bikes whit higher production numbers are worth.
but i don't care thats why i change them how i want and ride whit them.

    henk!!!

  3. Who cares about the resale value of these things down the line?! They are for riding! Enjoying and remembering fondly.

So some are very rare - great. If you want to invest, fine. Me, I want to ride.

I intend to render every bike I own worthless through thrashing the bejesus out of it until it litterally gives up the ghost and no-one would pay you for it. Then, it has been used, in the manner intended. Desmo is no exception. I hope to get every mile out of that engine, and as many of them on the rev limiter as possible!

    Maybe it's just me......

  4. Stunning that would look beautiful in my living room
I would take that rather than a Desmo
    :)

  5. One careful owner, no expenses spared kind off thing? :p

  6. Without that so called brick as you describe, you probably wouldn't be riding what you are today?

  7. Prove it

  8. Don't you just love "new to the brand" ducati owners.

  9. Heritage is the end product of what you are riding today, and without it then there is no end product

  10. What the hell man even if it is heritage does not mean everyone has to like it. I can bet there is plenty of stuff you do not like that your parents or grandparent's did. In fact there is a reason those bikes are "History" or "Heritage".

  11. I so agree with the sentiment of this post. Life is about doing things and living in the moment, not about accumulating stuff. Motorcycles are made primarily for the thrills they give you when you're using them. That's why going to a Bike show is so uninspiring - seeing a load of static objects not making any noise is so what biking is not about.

If you really want to invest money, go and get a cellar of wine. It will improve rather than deteriorate, and if it all goes wrong, you can drink it. Buy your bikes as a total loss exercise, stop worrying about what they are worth and use them to death. I am sorry I don't still own all the bikes I used to have, but that's life. I don't have all the girlfriends I used to have either, or live in all the houses I used to live in. You either drift on the current and admire the view, or cling to your little rock like a bivalve.

  12. Because they own ducatis too? Would take a d16 over the old race bike any day, bikes are for riding, unless you live at and own a track wouldnt have it

  13. It's an apples and pears comparison really tho isn't it; one a race bike bred road bike which, although beels & whistles, is a road bike. The other is purely a race bike.

Its the same as a 916sps foggy rep v a full factory foggy race bike; chalk and cheese

And without new to brand Ducati riders, there would be no Ducati full stop. And old parts quickly dry up...Think on ;-)

  14. I love it when people say "think on". It has a sort of northern ring to it. Is it more a northern expression than a southern one? Surely southerners just say "think about it", which doesn't have the same pizzaz.

  15. More like 'yer get meh'

    I'd I'm a northerner at heart ;-)

  16. Pah... shandy drinking southerners!

  17. You don't have to like that's fine but no doubt in 50 years time someone on a Ducati forum will probably say didn't that Panigale look like a bag of shite, it's called progress, which is my point without it nothing changes.

  18. Actually, you know that Panigale? It looks like a bag of....er......

  19. That 50 years soon went by? that's progress for you

  20. Yes, hence the perennial appeal of going to a race meeting, a trackday, Goodwood, the Pioneer Run, WDW, a club night, or the Ace Café. That's why bike museums are interesting up to a point, but always somehow slightly lacking.
