  3. LOL sorry el tel, i could not resist!

It is a nice bike but the humongous cans never did it for me. Front view, yes, side view yes, arse end no.

I imagine you took quite a thumping in the pocket when you sold it?

  4. No more than I expected tbh. I've come to learn that when you p/x a bike with a dealer they want your bike plus £4k cash (at least) every time. It's been like that for me at least for the last 10-12 years.

Ps. When I bought the R1 it was just before the Yen did what it did and so I bought it new for £3k less than I would have done if I'd have bought it 3 months later.

  5. 2003 i bought one of the first triumph daytona's. I think i paid around £7,500 for it. 2005 i bought a gsxr 1000 ltd edition brand new for 7k after much haggling. Its frightening to see how much a new bike costs these days. I paid similar for the 1098 which is 4 1/2 years old, its the first time i have bought a second hand bike as my first bike. I usually own at least two but only have one now. I keep chewing on a second bike. I had a KR1s, great fun and would maybe like an aprilia rs250 but they are strong money and much junk out there. Maybe a yammy rd would be good too.

  6. Ha! I can see why you changed it for a proper bike! What's with the red bits? That just looks so wrong.

    Evil. Evil. Evil.

  7. Still have my original 98 R1 in the lock up. Still probablly the easiest bike to ride i have ever owned. Plus the amount of people who try to buy it off me is funny(red seat version)

  8. Is the R1 a second bike colz?

  9. Kinda. Was my bike and when i decided to get my first ducati a few yrs ago couldnt part with it. So gave it to my wife as a xmas pressie!! Still get to ride it when i want!! Unless she's out on it

  10. How do you get on with the duke compared to the R1?

  11. I had an R1 for a couple of years and compared to the Ducati it was soulless, uneventful, appliance like, had no character but was was easy to ride, worked every time, didn't get too hot, easy at low speeds and was quick.

I also had an R6 and the main difference you'll notice are the rev's, on the R6 it felt like you were going 100mph when really you were doing 50. On the Ducati, it's the other way round.

  12. I think the R1 is the nicest looking of the Jap bike at the mo. Must be the under seat zorsts!
Been close to getting a '05 model a few times as a second bike. Agreed those mooosive cans are an affront!

  13. Mine was on '05... good for long trips too. Here's a pic of us in Poland Auschwitz-Birkenau.jpg

  14. That's exactly what I thought when I rode a friend's. "Appliance-like" absolutely sums it up. A bit like a moving food-processor. Very useful, but not something you think very much about when you're not using it.

  15. Took a couple of rides to get back into the swing of things with twins. Was the 749 though, wouldnt say its as easy to get on with compared to the 848. Fitted a oberon slave cylinder, leavers and rearsets to the 848 and its comfy as fick, the seat is a bit slidey so different seat of stomp gripps are a good idea if you want to save your nuts! As the brakes are mental

  16. Same reason I sold my 04 blade. Looked good, went ace, fast as light but yawn in the character stakes. Jumped onto a bimmer GS then 848. Otherwise 848 felt too slow back to back ;-)

  17. I am a bit baised about the R1's as i have always thought they were the best lookin jap bikes. Still think the original one looks stunning today. Cant agree about the soulless part on the orig one though, always found her a bit like a caged animal and great sound with a race can when you are lettin it rip

  18. How very dare you

  19. "Appliance" when mines being an arse (full of "character") I wouldn't mind a bit of appliance...

  20. For a minute there I thought I was on a Ducati forum.
