Front Brake Gone?

  1. Good day, I have a Monster 796 abs. Stored in the garage for winter. When I checked the front brakes, lever has no pressure and squeezing it goes all the way to the handle bars. No leaks whatsoever. Been working fine before the winter storage. What caused this and any tips? thanks.

  2. Sounds like moisture and/or air has entered the system. I'd bleed the brakes, replace with new fluid and see if that cures it. I'd check the rear brake as well.

  3. thanks for the quick reply. maybe moisture got in, parked it for the winter in my garage without heat. didint happen couple of winters ago due i parked it in a heated garage. ps. just had a full desmo service last season and change all fluids too.

  4. It's possible, mind you mine are parked in an unheated (but insulated) garage and don't suffer unduly, however, the first thing I'd do would be to change the fluid, it's easy enough to do and will take about 20-30 mins max.

  5. thanks for the replies.

  6. Also this sensation can be caused by dirty pistons in the caliper, give the calipe pistons good clean. Try not to let them pop out! Wedge a piece of wood in between them stop it happening. Seals will need cleaning and tlc.

  7. thanks

  8. Cable tie or bungie for a couple of hours. Then bleed the top nipple and see what it’s like. Easier than bleeding the whole system and often fixes things like this ime

  9. will try tying it with zip ties prior to bleeding. but the 796 doesn't come with a bleed nipple on the master. does it mean i have to crack open the banjo to bleed it?

  10. No sorry, didn't realise it wasn't a remote reservoir. Sounds like its bleed at the bottom then.

  11. Thanks again buddy.
