Diavel New Diavel 1260 Review

Discussion in 'Diavel & XDiavel' started by El Toro, Mar 27, 2019.

  1. My Carole has lived with her 1st gen Diavel for 7 years. It still makes her smile, it still gives her a rush and it still gives her a lot of enjoyment riding it. Given all the positives being bandied about, I have a horrible suspicion that I’ll be contributing to a new 1260 sometime soon. Which is only fair as I bought a V4. Andy

  2. Great review, thank you :). Just about to replace my 3rd Multi 1200S and I am also thinking perhaps a change would be good. The Diavel S is my other option. Have ridden the base model and loved the fact it pulls like a train but after 30 minutes my lower back ached - did you look or try another seats or bar positions?

  3. Funny my 1299s Panigale come up for a change next April so have a test ride this May on a Diavel. Only problem I have is in my head !! Riding the Panigale Sunday it suddenly dawned on me that riding this sort of bike on our speed limited chaotic bumpy shit roads is somewhat limiting nowadays. Love the Panigale to bits and its a lovely bike to own. However times change. Now having many a sleepless night thinking about it !! Guess the test ride will tell.

  4. Given that I have moved from a Panigale (had sports bikes for 40 years) if you guys have any specific questions just let me know and I'll try and answer them as best as I can :)

  5. :upyeah:Only question I have is do I don't I. Love sports bikes but getting to an age now where I am questioning them going forward. The fact the I am probably is the answer !!

  6. Have to say that I had that question in my head for the past 3 or 4 years. I decided that I still wanted the ooomph that a sports bikes has but I wanted a more relaxed riding position too. The Diavel 1260S with all it's toys ticked that box.

  7. Guess that's the way I am thinking of going. Why the 1260s instead of the x Diavel ?

  8. Though I liked the XD when I test rode it a couple of years ago (and I got used to the foot forward stance pretty quickly), I prefer the more upright ergonomics of the Diavel and the fact that my feet are directly under me gives me (or at least it feels like it gives me) more control whilst riding.

  9. That's great. Appreciate the advice

  10. Thanks for the write up ET, have had my 13 Dark from new and still love the thing, I can see one of these in my future though, a Diavel with the lot it would seem .
How are you finding the ohlins suspension, that's the one area on mine that needed improvement.
And lastly throw a few pics of the new toy up :upyeah:.

  11. The Ohlins seem fine. I never need to tamper with suspension. At around 11 stone/70kg I just get on and ride my bikes.

And as requested just a couple of pics so far. I’ve not had the chance to take any in dramatically picturesque settings yet.

  12. I've just put deposit down on a S model same as yours but with the heated grips and a few bling bits - I got a great deal on my PX and got £600 worth of accessories chucked in and I've ridden the demo bike for 3 hours and loved it - only issues are the ride is slightly harsh but that can be sorted easily and I'm not a lover of the indicators in the rear splash guard so hopefully they can be relocated to the rear lights

  13. I do.... in foreign climbs where it isnt frowned upon I hasten to add.
Ive hit 140mph on the X Diavel S and it was rock solid.
It will cruise comfortably all day at 90-100mph (and still showed 55mpg), but the lack of fairing meant it was a strain on the arms.

  14. As an X Diavel S owner I fully agree. Hence Ive just put a deposit on the 1260S
The feet forward position makes riding downhill particularly awkward and your feet get blown off the pegs at very high speed. The 1260S's upright riding position is ergonomically better. The narrower bars also make filtering through traffic much easier as well.
I still think the X Diavel S is drop dead gorgeous though.

  15. Yesterday I did 185 miles with my mate Dave (@CINNABULL knows Dave) and we "did the Peak District". We didn't hang about and I managed to scrub the rear tyre pretty much to the edge. I think yesterday I really gelled with the Diavel. It really is an awesome piece of kit!

And only one bike (GSXR 1000) overtook us all day and that was on a straight. We soon reeled him in and passed him again on the twisties :p

  16. Haha, good stuff Tez. Glad you're enjoying the new Duc and sound like you had a good blast with Dave. You know what, we'll all have to get out on a Sunday round Wales, we've been saying it for ages now. I know I harp on about the place, but the roads to and from Barmouth really are some of the best within a days ride. Dave loves it, we went out a couple of weeks back and it was only Phil on his S1000RR that passed us really, again on a straight. There was 6 of us out that day, 4 on Ducs !!, and me on me ickle Striple.

  17. Dave and I spoke about doing Wales this summer. We've got Mugello in 3 weeks so it'll have to be after that (I could do it on the Scrambler but I want to do it on the Diavel) :)

  18. How many miles you done now? What mileage are you getting on a full tank ? Have you had any issues with the bike? Can't wait to pick mine up especially with the Termi [Q

Have to meet up as I live in Suffolk and love the peak District and am planning on going to Wales on tour in 4 weeks "El Toro, post: 1353277, member: 23818"]Yesterday I did 185 miles with my mate Dave (@CINNABULL knows Dave) and we "did the Peak District".
