Thinking of going to the Isle of Man TT this year, I've never been before does anyone have any tips, where to stay, where to watch ( Ballacrye, the Creg-ny-Baa, Crosby, or Rhencullen)
What he said.........................the biggest tip is to book at least 6-9 months in advance. I doubt there is bed to be had or even a tent pitch at this stage for 2013, never mind a ferry crossing for a bike. Anyway 10 weeks to go, cant wait.
The biggest tip is to book as you leave the year before, 6 months and you'll get nothing (unless your incredibly lucky).
Yeah its a bit of a random idea first thing on a Saturday morning, having never been before. There seems to be tickets avalable here The official Isle of Man TT website Although some options do say "Sorry - This option is no longer available" I hadn't thought about the ferry selling out will check it out now. - Ferry is available from Heysham, just need some accommodation now
Go to the Isle of Man official website and check out 'Homestay's' . You might have to make several phone calls, but you will find something eventually. top tip: The further away from Douglas you are, the more likely you will find a room. I had a Homestay last year and my landlady lent me her car free of charge! How about flying there? I did that, there in an hour, more or less right on the doorstep, buses are frequent and cheap and seem to run on time. You can get around the island more or less where you want to go with a bit of planning.
Well its looking like its going to be the accommodation that is going to be my undoing. Sent of some email enquiring about cottages.
Saxman Phoning directly, if possible, is your best bet in my experience. I did make a note of how many people responded to my e mail inquiries, was not a great response rate!
Just had the genius idea of hiring a panigale for the weekend, if only I could find a Desmo for hire.
Errm i'm not planning on racing! Just thought hiring a bike that i'm think of buying for a little try before I buy type of thing.
If you need to get an idea of what Steve means just watch the you tube video of Dave Jefferies going round on Mad Sunday then imagine loads of people with less than 10% of his skill trying to do the same thing. See you there, stick to YOUR limits and you will have a good time.
Whether racing or Mad Sunday, the TT circuit can be treacherous...........You need to learn the circuit and that takes many 'easy' trips around it as possible....... ....with normal circuits it probably takes three or four laps and a squint at the circuit map........(but even then you can get caught out like we did at Pembrey with the dip on the inside of Woodlands....the outfit took off then aquaplaned)..... ......the TT circuit is what, 38 miles long and you can't learn it by doing just three laps. I gave up on it after second year attempt......far too dangerous for outfits, I reckon....certainly is for an outfit that hasn't done it before. Maybe not so bad for a solo rider, but the oufits are so low, you can't see where the road goes when you approach at least one of the bridges.......It's a bugger when you are in the air and you have to have your front wheel in the right direction when you land.... AL
Just watched that Dave Jefferies clip and it brought back my memories of going on the course.I have to admit to being quite amazed and scared at the speed of some of the guys coming past me.I am full of nothing but admiration for the racers that take part in the TT,Takes a lot of skill and balls.
