1299 M50 And M4 Pads

  1. Are M4 pads the same as M50? I have a TD tomorrow and really don't like the pads in my new 1299!

  2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you will need the front wheel out in order to change the pads.

  3. No, just calipers off.

  4. I dont recall taking my front wheel off to change pads on my 1299S. Pretty sure I didnt.

  5. M4 calipers require removing to change pads. M50 calipers are a design iteration different. Andy

  6. Nah, you don’t need to take out the wheel, just the callipers.

Just bought 2 sets of Brembo Z04 pads. Bloody expensive so they must be amaze balls.... anyone used them? Super duper?

  7. I much prefer the SC, they don’t need warming up, I like the bite and the feedback feel and I haven’t experienced fade at all. To be fair, with my slightly less “hail mary” riding style, I don’t need the ultimate anchor :D Andy

  8. Yes I put them in my 1198 at the same time I fitted an RCS 19 master cyl... I was shocked by how good the brakes were... Since I changed the pads and cylinder at the same time it's hard to say what changing just the pads would be like (I'll know tomorrow as fitting them to 1299)

  9. Yeah, you are right. What I meant to say is that you cannot remove the pads with the disk still in the caliper. On some calipers you could remove the pin or clip and slide the pad out of the top. With these you cannot.

Has anybody tried the SA compound?

  10. SA is the standard sintered road pad, SC is still sintered but IMO good for track days and is a big step up from the SA, then you have RC which is the track and race sintered carbon ceramic pad. The Z04 is the professional race pad. Andy

  11. Got Z04 pads in the 899, pretty impressive but I’m down to my last set now and I’m going to order some GPFAX pads as I’ve heard that there’s not much difference in performance but a shitload of difference in price

  12. I’ve changed the Z04 pads on the 899 by just pulling the pin out. Don’t need to remove the caliper or wheel

  13. Z04 are 100% worth the crazy cost, they more or less pay for themselves in stability, how long they last and also lack of delamination which tends to affect every other brand and can destroy expensive discs. I'm soon to test out the EBC GPFax with a view to comparing to my usual Z04 so I will let you know. The British Army Team and a bunch of other teams and racers have been using them and they all say good things about them so definitely worth a look. My expectation is that they will compare well to other race pads, performing to a similar level as the Z04 except the Z04 usually lasts 2-3 times as long hence the price. Bendix and TWM do good comparable race endurance pads which are also pricey and whilst both are good the Z04 is still the best in my experience and the only one not to delaminate when getting low.

  14. I’ve run my Z04s right down to the wear marker without any drop in performance or delaminating

  15. Thanks for that. What puzzles me is that you have the OEM Brembo pad which is very expensive, then the SA which is about half the price, then the SC which is a little more but still nowhere near the OEM pad cost. Why are the OEM pads so expensive?

  16. I prefer the Bendix/sbs pads over the z04.
Don't know if the z04 were old but they chucked out so much dust!!

  18. Yeah I did that. And fucking binned it at turn 8 Almeria. 100% due to ‘they’ll be ok for another session’
I won’t be doing that again. Til next time
