just got back from a week in morocco and got taken by the idea of heading down on the multistrada....anybody been? Saw a bunch of guys on teneres and similar bikes on a group ride, a company called sandraiders, but prefer to go it on my own on that MTS and see what adventures can be had.
Been there several times, once on a MTS. Perfect bike for the trip, provided you keep on tarmac and gentle off-road. No major problems, only sand getting everywhere when you get down to the desert and the wind blows from both sides of the road. I once had the ignition switch stuck with a lot of sand underneath, a pain to clean it off. Best time to go is April to June, summer is far too hot . September -October also possible, however at times torrential rain cause floods and blockage of main roads, particularly in the Atlas mountain passes. No need to go with a company, it is relatively easy to organize it all by yourself. Avoid the medinas of the main cities, a nightmare with a big bike like the Multi. Do it. You won’t regret it.
Planned it for the bike but then it looked too cold so took the car. Brilliant trip. Don't speed, I've never seen so many mobile speed checks, even way out in the middle of no where. Went over the RIF and the Atlas mountains down to Marrakech and back up the west side. Found the people fantastic. TB
Stunning place I done 10 days there but I stuck to off road. if your doing the road a multi is perfect but if you plan doing any off road sections I seen lots of damaged cast wheels !
There are some great and twisty mountain passes in Morocco that would be guid crack on a multi, but were also fun on a 690 enduro on knobbies. Like theskits I was off road most of time, a proper dirt bike is the only way to get to some of the most stunning or just plain bizarre sights. Pick your hotels wisely beforehand if you like a beer. Great place to travel by bike. The north is very different to the south.
We found the mobile check points had no interest in us, despite unwittingly approaching at least 20ks over the limit. We slowed, but they waved us straight through with a smile..... traffic cops.... smiling I got the impression they are more concerned in looking for ak47 wielding nutters.
