  1. Absolute snip !! _ What a waste of a huge garage though- only one bike !! Mind you, with the proceeds he could fill it with a super value Carby 900SS, a big old Honda and an Elefant with shiney alloy wheels - and twenty bags left over - or am I jut dreaming ??

  2. These will be 27k soon I think.

  3. yep, prices only going one way on these for a few years yet.

  4. What did they cost new?

  5. About £40k I think. I'm sure there are some here that know exactly.

  6. Yep, 40k.
I'm surprised to see this one for sale for that price. The seller says 'best price OVER 30k' so I'm guessing it'll go for something nearer £35k which seems to be the going rate ATM.

Now the free servicing and warranty has run out, there'll be quite a few up for sale and then many of them will be kept off the road for special occasions. So if you want one, now's your chance.

It does look like a bargain.

  7. 25k and I'm in:upyeah:

  8. But RC30s are becoming more expensive:

    Honda VFR 750 R-K RC30 ***NEW UN-USED*** | eBay

I reckon the Desmo will be as desirable in the future as the RC30 - probably a lot more so.

If you bought a very low mileage one today for 30 grand and didn't use it for 20 years, but feather dusted it, do you reckon you could get 60 grand for it in 20 years time? I'd be tempted to say yes, unless the global economy tanks in that time. You could probably sell it to a Chinese investor...

So you could have a nice piece of appreciating art in your living room.

  9. What a waste that would be. Part of the pleasure of exotica imo is allowing others to enjoy the tastes smells looks and sounds. Just like the vintage 'brick' race bike, why buy it not to use it? Ok if you have millions in the bank fill yer boots, but doenst make it any less of a waste

I'd love a desmo like many others, but would I buy one? No, becasue I couldnt afford for it to go bang or to chuck it down the road.

  10. Ha ha,...knowing you....

  11. I was thinking purely in investment terms. Otherwise, I'm inclined to agree with you. If I was in the market for a long term investment, and had the space for it, I'd as soon have a precious motorcycle as a painting, or a heap of bonds.

  12. I am trying to convince my wife that top quality/classic/rare motorcycles are a much better investment than ISA's.
I don't reckon my chances but will keep trying.
The last time I went on and on about a bike I liked she said "well go and buy it then" just to put me out of my misery.I didn't need telling twice. To late for her to change her mind.

  13. But probably only a real investment if you don't ride it. So you'll need a will of iron.

  14. Wrong! Original price was £37,500K with originally 500 being produced and priority given to 999R owners, then Ducati upped the numbers to 1500 and from January after announcement they also upped the price to £40K and I think they eventually hit £42k.

I think there are a few bargains to be had but on the whole prices remain fairly stable, this does seem a bargain maybe circumstances dictated this one

  15. Damn-there had to be a downside.Back to the drawing board then!

  16. They are ... Alot of people now investing in them.
