Fork Seal Replacement

  1. After nearly 25 years and 73000 miles my 1994 900SS has got a leaking fork seal, so I am looking for suggestions where to get seals and preferred weight of oil.
I used 10 weight when I have changed it previously although 5 weight has already been mentioned in another thread to reduce the "harsh action", but I can't say that I have ever felt it to be harsh and these days I run it on fairly soft settings for a comfortable ride.

  2. Are they fully adjustable Showas? I used Motul FL10 in mine.

Seals should be obtainable from most bearing and seal specialists, some online; say, http://www.ktechsuspension.com/

IIRC they also can supply the slide and guide bushes, which after 73,000 miles you might need.

  3. Just search Pyramid Parts on eBay. I’ve just done mine on the Showas on my 748, they send the complete kit, oil seals, dust seals and bushes. Prompt delivery too.

You’ll also need a fork seal driver; got mine from thetoolacademy £40ish, also eBay, also prompt service.

Different bike, but I used Motul 7.5 oil.

  4. I made my fork seal driver from a short length of scaffold tube split in half length ways, lined with thin Teflon which I had to hand........

.....would have been easier to buy one! ;)

  5. Especially as one needs chamfered edges that can pound the seal body without touching the seal edge that actually does the sealing. Whilst I admire and am all for ingenuity IMO there are limits.

  6. We manufacture and supply fork seal driver tools if you require one, we also have a 10% discount code for all forum members :D:upyeah:
