ive just had an independent do a 15k service including the belts on my 2013 Multi S Touring. Riding home tonight, possibly on a racetrack somewhere, at 90 mph it used to take off like a scalded cat, now it bogs down and doesn’t accelerate. All seems fine at other speeds, acceleration felt normal. Am I missing something??? Cheers Mick
Did you change the belts? It seems like bad timing of the camshafts to me. It happened to me the first time
Top gear? Does it rev right thru the gears, ie first and second too the redline? 90 is about 5k in top iirc and could be the flapper valve (?) Or could be as described above!
This is the only thing that could happen In the 15K service. A slightly offset in the camshaft of one of the cylinders will cause a massive loss in the high end, not so much in the low range. Does it idle the same way as before?
It idles better to be honest and now I’ve had a play on the way to work tonite, it runs out of revs at about 4K revs, won’t accelerate any more, in every gear. It wont redline or get close. I thought the flapper valve but why would sitting in a garage for a week and a half affect it, could it be there was a problem before that i hadn’t seen? Also, it seems quieter at tickover and then the revs get louder as I accelerate just like the valve opens!!! Cheers Mick
Exhaust valve is where my money is Free it off , disco the cable and take it for a blast - will be quickly identified i
Already had a look. As it happens, with luck tonight will stay quiet and I can work through the thread again. Cheers all for the help Mick
The fact that it idles better makes me think that it has risen the rpm to compensate the wrong timing. Check the exhaust valve, it could be worth trying and really easy to check, then I would put my money on the timing belt. Just a tooth of difference and you'll have a wall in your acceleration, mine stopped revving up at 4.5k and it was the front cylinder.
The flappy valve thing on my Multistrada seized when the bike stood in the garage not a hint of a problem a few days before
Given its just been serviced with belts, I’d certainly ti checking or asking for servicer to check it’s not out. Unless its cleared with a quick flapper check
Quick update now I’ve woken up after nights. This morning at 0600, damp, chilly and foggy, about 4 degrees. The bike didn’t want to start, lumpy and wouldn’t tickover. Eventually got it to run but the ride home was no fun as until it warmed up it wouldn’t rev over about 2.5 k. Fairly convinced it’s the belt on wrong but I’m going to check the valve anyway after a bacon sarny!! Probably just do the mid to take it out of the equation. Not impressed with the garage at the moment, £700, took a week longer than he said, now this!!! Won’t name him yet until it’s sorted but happy to after that. Mick.
Have you informed the mechanic yet and if so what was the response. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how they get dealt with that shows what someone is like.
Yep, that’s why I’m reluctant to name him yet, although he hasn’t exactly been good so far. The bike was with him for a week longer than he promised, he never returned calls, he promised a cost reduction which never came, now this!!! His apprentice did clean the bike very well though. Not told him yet, planning a text after I’ve done the exhaust valve, still hoping it’s that but we shall see. Mick
I agree. If it is a wrong belt positioning, it will not cause any damage in the short term, but on the long one I don't think it will be good for the valves. Try to not ride it until you'll find the problem, just in case.
So how many ducati specialists are there near Rugby that let apprentices change belts. Hope he does right by you. TB
Ah, he’s not in Rugby, wouldn’t want to mislead anyone. I’ve already done about 50 miles since I collected it yesterday, it means another 35 mile trip back to him. Good call about not riding. Off out now to check the valve. Mick.
