And I'm Off.. I Really Am This Time

  1. I kinda do... yea I do..
Although there is pretty much nothing that transfers from riding a sports bike to this..
It's learning to ride all over again just about...
It's basically a baby cruiser but quite a bit more nimble.
I've not thrashed it at all , it doesn't feel right and I need to make it home!!!
I've had it to 107mph once but only for a few minutes it wasn't twisted to the stop nor was it through the gears..
and it was ok on the road I was on.
Other than that I've probably not gone over 90 since and not very often at all. It cruises well at 80 and doesn't feel comfy on corners at that speed..
Ya 40 to 70 mph stuff it does well..
And that kinda suits most of the roads I've been on.
I think with some sport touring tyres and some different bars, to get some weight over the front it would be a better bike for sure..
But it is fun and with a tank range of 140 miles , better on juice than any of my other bikes..
There are many times and roads that I wish I was on my 900 ss but over all it's not a bad way to see the world.
It's popping a bit more than it used to on the over run ( perhaps Europe fuel?) And has developed a small oil weep ( I say weep not leak as the level hasn't dropped and it's not left a drop on the ground)
Other than that it has been faultless.

  2. I'm just over an hour from bologna..
Sometimes hitting avoid motorways doesn't guaranty good roads..
Apart from a few bits , this morning has been all bumpy duel caridgeways through industrial estates..
Probably should have just hammered down the motorway!!! 15592090650801310475782.jpg

  3. I don't think I will make it home on these tires though...
I've 2mm tread depth at best in the centre. .
I'm up for riding em to the canvass though!

  6. What tyres are they and, I can't remember if you said or not, where they new when you set off?

  7. I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head ref the 803cc version. It's a fun bike and aimed at those that just want to have fun riding. Nothing more, nothing less.

However you can ride them quickly and for sustained periods of time.

Back in 2015 when I'd just got my Classic I went up to Scotland on it with about 20 other Ducati riders. One day we were riding to Braemar from Arrochar and stopped for a break near Pitlochry. One of my friends riding a 1098S came up to me when we'd stopped and said in an accusatory tone "You, ya fucker", which took me aback. "What?" says I. He replied "We were giving it 'some' back then hitting ***mph and every time I looked in my mirrors you were there, right behind me. That bike looks fun!"

I took that as a compliment, though he didn't know that I was hanging on like mad because of the wind blast!

Anyway moving on to the 1100 version and that is another animal altogether. You'd need your big boy pants on to ride that ;)

  12. I've got two numbers for you :)

What's you plan to get/be there etc? Where are you staying?

  14. No idea, catching up with Chizel and maybe blagging a room or sleeping on the floor. Plan is to get there first, still no tickets!
I will have my French phone with me as no EU roaming charges and I get tighter by the day.

  15. There's something satifying about the security guard at Borgo Panigale raising the barrier for you and allowing you to park in the car park because you are on a Ducati. :)

  17. Agreed. The guy who organises shipment of our bikes rides a BMW 1250GS..........it's fun watching him having to park his bike outside/round the corner whilst we all park in the Ducati car/bike park :D
