Starting Hyper 1100s Without Headlight

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Dudz996, Jun 8, 2019.

  1. I heard of someone mastering a circuit they had made up with a relay, so he could start the bike without lights therefore not draining the battery , then after starting the relay clicks in and the lights come on. Anybody know about this ?
    Would be really helpful

  2. I don't know of a previous post but you need to locate the feed to the dip beam. Get a normally closed relay or use the normally closed contacts of a change over relay. Connect one side of the relay coil to ground and the other to the starter solenoid +ve feed. When the starter is operated the relay points will open cutting off the headlight.

  3. thats helpful thanks, but this one mentioned was said to disengage the
lights before the key is turned, only when the engine is actually running
    the lights would work.

  4. That will be a bit trickier. You'd need to find a circuit that is only active when the engine is running liker the fuel pump and use that to trigger a normally open relay

  5. I don't know of that particular mod, but it is as @Derek states it's do-able, at least in theory, practically no clue.

On the older forum a mod was posted up for a 999 I think and I incorporated it into my 1098 to incorporate a switch to be able to switch the lights on & off at will

Worked a treat but pretty dammed fiddly to install and you need a new bar switch

The instructions for that one are attached, I'd certainly look into the exisiting wiring to see if it could be adapted to your bike, if you think that would be suitable. I don't know as I haven't looked at a wiring diagram for a Hyper

  6. The fuel pump relay won't work for triggering a relay as it would switch the lights on when the starter is cranking. So have to look at something else. Unfortunately (?) I'm on holiday in Turkey right now and don't have access to computer and wiring diagrams.
