The Ducati Forum Guesthouse on the Wild Atlantic Way is now open A bike (and biker) friendly B&B with discounted rates for paid up members of the Ducati Forum. Within walking distance of the pretty seaside village of Schull in West Cork I can offer you your own guest house to stay in whilst you're touring the southern section of the WAW. Opposite the main house (above) is a 2 bedroom guest house which is yours and yours alone. It comprises of a living room, a large shower room/wc, a kitchenette and 2 decent sized bedrooms, one with a king size double bed and the other with 3 single beds. I also have off road parking (although this is a crime free area) and may even be able to accommodate your bike(s) in the bike store if the weather is really crap. Talking of which there is a drying room to dry out wet kit and we'll happily throw stuff in the tumble dryer if you require (there is a washing machine in the guest house for you). There's also an onsite workshop with a myriad of tools, spare fuel on site, fuel stations within 7km and a motorbike repair shop 20km away. As both my wife and I are foodies you have a choice of a 'continental' style breakfast with a selection of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, granola, cheeses, charcuterie, eggs, toast, jam, marmalade, honey, tea, coffee etc., or I can provide a full cooked breakfast. Continental breakfast is served in the guest house, for the full Irish you have to join us in the main house, but.... you have to like dogs as we have a very large Dogue de Bordeaux who despite his formidable appearance is a big softy. The house is just 15 mins walk from the village of Schull with it's many bars and restaurants. If you fancy fine dining we have a Michelin star restaurant in Ballydehob, just 5mins drive away, and another, on the other side of Roaring Water Bay in Baltimore, just 30mins drive away; both of which are highly recommended. Set in 3 acres of landscaped and mature gardens you are welcome to walk around and just chill in the grounds. Perhaps walk through the bamboo grove and sit and watch the cold mountain water tumbling over the rockbed of the stream, as it cascades down from Mt Gabriel behind us, on it's route to the sea. Or, walk up the hill to the Look-Out and have a sundowner looking out over Schull Harbour to the various islands dotted across the Atlantic. Or just sit and read a book in the Mediterranean courtyard. Wether you're just passing through and staying with us the one night or stopping for a few days I can provide details of good routes and ride-outs complete with fuel, rest, food & drink stops. If I'm not working then I'm more than happy to take you on guided tours to introduce you to our unspoilt, relatively traffic free, jaw dropingly beautiful scenery riddled countryside. And, if you just want some time off the bike there's loads to do from whale watching, to browsing the local markets and boutique shops, to walking, to sight-seeing, to bird watching, to island hopping, to kayaking, to fishing, to horse riding, to eating, drinking and just taking in the craic and the music in local pubs. The guesthouse is yours for £80/night for the first two people and then £25 per additional person after that, inc. breakfast; plus there's a £15 discount for subscribing Ducati Forum members, which covers the cost of a full premium subscription to the forum. If you're interested please PM me. ps. I'm more than happy to help advise on your travel arrangements to/from here as well. pps. Please check out www.swi500.ie
While I am very unlikely to take you up on it, that is a very generous discount and a fantastic looking gaff you have there @PaulPhillips
Excellent presentation and a must have tick the box weekend for a fab garden layout/food spread etc, best of luck with your new venture
Looks very well and it is a beautiful part of the country. The Wild Atlantic Way is the easiest bike tour of 2500 km anyone from the UK can do. Very well signposted south to north and vice versa. Excellent food and pubs all along it and your guesthouse will only add to it. I rode from Murrisk to Leenane last Sunday and was amazed by the amount of bikes following it. Mostly European but a few UK
Yep, the bike count is increasing daily now, French, German, Italian, Dutch but not so many from the UK. I guess UK'ers think 'I'll head for the sun' and hit mainland continental Europe, but from May to mid October we have more dry sunny days than wet days here on the Atlantic seaboard and some of the most stunning scenery in Europe. Spoiler Alert - shameless plug coming:
That's just awful.... (for me) Just had to cancel tour taking in the WAW starting 24th of June, hadn't yet fully sorted accommodation. Fell ill on way back from Dolomites tour a couple of weeks ago and spent a week in French hospitals. Not yet fully recovered so had to pull the plug on our plans. Will make note and possibly contact you for next year.
I might have to take my ST2 for a schpin to Schull ! I will put it back on the road after easter but first it needs a stator and rectifier replacement. Currently in Storage in Wexford I have to retrieve it to my workshop once the bench has it's current occupant finished.
Done the WAW four years on the trot now, usually tie in a tour with the UGP. beautiful scenery and super friendly people. Need to start planning this years ride, I'll keep this in mind. Thanks
that looks bloody excellent WCP! i WILL be visiting at some point!!!! not sure i can afford it this year but never say never.. good luck with it all mate.
I don’t know why this thread popped back up, I started it last year, but hey ho, it saves me having to shamelessly bump it (which I was going to anyway), thank you Bookings now being taken And in case anyone missed it, there’s a guided tour available 14-20 June
Good luck Paul. I've been up and down the WAW many times. This is exactly what I had in mind to set up when I lived in Galway. Alas circumstances dictated it never happened. Seriously pal, well done
