Anyone watching 'Thatcher A Very British Revolution' https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episo...british-revolution-series-1-1-making-margaret
She sorted a few out too Definitely the most courageous leader in my memory. Didn’t agree with everything she said/did but definitely a modern super heavyweight of the political world.
Yes - very interesting. Seems quite dated now. 1979 election was the first time I voted........and it was for her and her government. Right thing to do at the time, IMO. I look back on her time with ambivalence......she did some stuff that needed doing and moved the country on. The cost to many peoples lives and livelihoods was immense.............but on balance, probably less than the cost of not dealing with the country’s dire economic state in the longer term. A divisive character who appears to have been despised by the people, and her party, in equal measure.
Watched the 1st 3 episodes so far. Whatever you think of her, it's worth a watch. You forget the state the country was in, in 1979.
I’d have to be honest and say I didn’t find it interesting. Can’t say I’m a fan, to me a lot of things she did may have benefitted some in the short term but not long term. I wasn’t quite old enough to vote in 79, I suppose nowadays I would have been on social media moaning about it.
Well - at least 3 of us here are watching it. I can’t believe your inaccuracies loz, can I ever trust you again ?
It never surprises me just how many "labour through and through" folk seem to have erased the winter of our discontent from their memories
