  4. At Waitrose I can pick up a handheld scanner as I go in, scan everything and pack it as I go along, and then just pay the bill as I leave. Works extremely well, and no annoying messages or arguments because no checkout. Do any other shops offer this facility yet?

  5. Interesting.

Does it keep you abreast of the total? If so, that is quite surprising, as aware of how much you've spent, you might start to forego purchases that you would have bought in ignorance of the monster bill you'll get given at the check-out.

A plus for the hard-up consumer (though there are probably statistcally fewer of those in a Waitrose), but a minus, you'd have thought, for the store.

  6. Sainsburys are just trialling an app for all phones where you scan each product on your phone and you can pay either at a normal or self scan checkout
    It's looking good so far

  11. Ordered an xcarlink for my car, allows me to connect my ipod to the factory stereo, and control it from the head unit as well as charging it too. Not cheap at nearly £75 but worth it with the mileage I do.

  13. What's wrong with a gramophone?
