Upside for who ? Seems like a no win situation if we stay in the EU they make other deals that are bad for us. If we leave we might not get as a good a deal as before. Either way we lose, but save a few pennies being out of the EU
You think that because you're still not getting it. Eu promised join us and all will be sweet, we look after our own, the south american deal shows the true colours, the german car industry is more important than the european farmers from all 28 nations. The eu within that cap agreement, lets look at those support farmers and improve agricultural productivity, ensuring a stable supply of affordable food safeguard European Union (EU) farmers to make a reasonable living help tackle climate change and the sustainable management of natural resources maintain rural areas and landscapes across the EU keep the rural economy alive by promoting jobs in farming, agri-foods industries and associated sectors How on earth is the south american deal meeting those? not my rules, the eu's own rules and comittment to farmers
Agriculture may lose out, whilst other sectors develop and grow. But the point is there’s no likelihood our Agriculture sector would survive any better in a WTO / No Deal scenario...
For all the other good reasons - access to global markets that we enjoy as members. We will lose all that - with likely taking a big hit to GDP. And therefore tax revenues. I was just pointing out that Leaving will NOT protect Agriculture...
Alan, you might want to read some of the blog posts from this guy: a professional trade consultant. https://www.explaintrade.com/
We will still have access to global markets, eu member or not the three years of remainers trying to stop a peoples majority democratic vote has done more damage to the gdp. Of the economists that can be trusted, most have said all along, the hit if any, is likely to be short term. what you've tries to justify is, by actions, the eu will throw 28 nations farming and food producing industries under the bus if it means saving the German car industry and so paying a yearly fee, is a waste of time and you still haven't mentioned the eu's own key cap targets and how they have thrown them down the road Leaving right now, shows we have done the right thing and judging by how many farmers and food producers are unhappy with the eu over this deal, we are not the only ones. A key part is, the eu are still on the, we all agree or nothing is agreed, till they change to majority vote when the new commissioners come in, in November. An interesting article in the irish times 5 days ago https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ire...-trade-deal-for-south-american-beef-1.3937302 https://www.independent.ie/business...de-deal-delivers-a-massive-blow-38264237.html given how the french farmers are, it won't surprise you that both the french and irish food and farming industries are pressuring varadkar and macron to use their vote and block the deal
FFS!! Not with the same terms that we currently enjoy. Jeeesus. Do you EVER actually understand ANYTHING.
You said.............. Then....... You mentioned terms after @noobie made a quite correct observation. Do you understand ANYTHING?
I think we are going to go round in circles. Are we not allowed to access markets if we leave the EU ? If we can still access markets we won’t lose all that. Neither will remaining.
I’ve started to, not sure it’s saturday night entertainment though. I did find this So, why don’t they just do a Free Trade Agreement then? They almost certainly will eventually. It’s pretty silly not to at least work toward one of those with your closest neighbors. However, a Free Trade Agreement can take years to negotiate and Brexit might be happening as early as November. Which brings me back to if only our politicians had started negotiating rather than bickering
Ok guys. Apologies for any confusion. Of course we don’t loss access *altogether*... we’re not leaving the planet. But we lose the preferential terms with which we currently trade, as members of the EU. I kinda thought that meaning was obvious, but I stand corrected. It’s not the end of life as we know it. But by losing the preferential trading terms negotiated by the EU (including our own representatives) we lose competitive advantage.
The UK Govt spent two years negotiating and agreeing a deal / framework for leaving the EU. But the ERG (mostly) didn’t like what was agreed. I agree with you it’s largely been a massive f*ck-up.
Ah! So Brexit hasn’t happened because the ERG (Mostly) didn’t like the deal! And there was me thinking it was because Pro-Remain MPs of many political hue wanted to shackle the PM’s negotiation by rejecting all forms of Leave.
It is relevant. But it’s also clear that negotiating deals to replace those that we currently *already* have via EU Membership could well take years... And that proposal only addresses tariffs on goods, not other things like extra customs paperwork and processes, which also add to costs of doing business.
I would hope remainers and leavers can agree that the politicians have let the country down badly and will show it at the next GE. how I don’t know, my initial thoughts are nobody vote
