Airbags

  1. Thinking of getting one. I'd be interested to know what people think. Good idea or not? Worth spending 1k on, or not?
    Any recommendations?
It'd be for commuting, not track.

  2. Have a search as this topic has been discussed. I ride with a Helite waistcoat style air bag that goes over what you are wearing, leathers/textiles, which works for me. Andy

  3. i also have the Helite but the GP version for race leathers, another layer of security, you cant go wrong..
i last heard that Helite will bring out a new Semi active vest, similar to D-Air, so it might be worth waiting to see what that is like..

  4. https://hikesandmotorbikes.com/best-motorcycle-airbag-vest-jacket-reviews/
I was looking at an 'over' jacket one with pull cord that is fixed to bike. My only issue in this heat we're having now is the vents on my jacket (Klim) will be covered up so was looking at one that can go under the jacket. A textile jacket will also have room to expand if the air vest goes off too. (an under jacket stand alone air vest has the sensors to detect a fall, so no cord activation).

  5. I use the Alpinestars tech air vest which zips inside your leathers.

It adds a bit of weight but once on you don’t feel it. It’s very comfy.

My view is that if you can afford the extra grand (which is not small change) then why not improve your chances in the event of an off. There are plenty of cases where an air vest would have prevented serious injuries. It’s not a miracle worker but it’ll help.

  6. I was looking at the alpinestars one, but it seems to suggest it only works inside alpinestars jackets?

  7. Hmmm maybe. I bought mine along with Alpinestars compatible leathers.

  8. Same here....
