2011 1200S 2 year service on 9,500 miles

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bikergas.., Mar 24, 2013.

  1. Can anyone tell me what is done on the 2 year service if the miles are about 9,500? I have my 2011 1200S booked in to be done this week and been told it will need the belts replacing?

I just spoke to Andy W and he thinks it is 15,000 miles or 5 years for belt replacement, but he was not 100% sure, so suggested I ask you good people on here?

    Thanks, Chris

  2. Well all depends on the dealer, but I would guess they would do everything apart from valve clearances as they're not up to mileage, stuff like belts and fluids will be time dependent.

  3. I thought that Belts were changed every 2 years or 7.5K mileage wise on all bikes.

  4. MTS and Diavel are on 15k or 5 years. 2 year service at that mileage is 'oil service' only.

  5. From the hand book Scheduled Maintenance Chart the belts are changed every 15000 miles or 60 months, whichever comes first.

  6. Mine is due about now 2011 mts 1200 abs asked at Smc Sheffield
said oil and filter about £180 2nd year service

    I've done 6300 miles

  7. I now have it comfirmed by the dealers at £185 for a 2 year service and no the belts don't need doing.

Thanks for all of the input and help. Chris

  8. u might want to start saving up for the belt service though...as it will be around 6-800 quid

  9. Why so expensive for the belt service? Why more than any other Ducati belt change?

  10. Worth shopping around. My 15K service was £450

Yes included belts and valve check (all OK)

  11. Because of the labour time involved in getting to it all on this model.

  12. Hi
Where did you get it done for £450, I've just been quoted between £700-1000.
    Thanks.

  13. on the US forum there is a thread of someone having a go at doing the full service, having read it, it is clear there is a lot of work involved and it involves taking most of top of the engine off.

mine was about 700 but had a few extras like a new tyre, so it tots up to 800.

I think it may have been cheaper if I took it to a non-ducati franchise dealer like MD racing in london.

but I wouldnt do it myself...its a big job

  14. Sounds like additional labour drives the cost rather than dealer choosing to up their price. Good job its every 5 yrs 15k miles, as you would have done it twice by then so not too bad...unless you do decent mileage

  15. Sycamores in Uppingham after someone on this site recommended them. They stopped being a dealership in December but still carry out Ducati servicing. I found them very good.

  16. 2 Yearly Service Info

Just some useful info regarding yearly/2 yearly service. My Ducati dealer recently told me I needed all the fluids changed on a 2 yearly. I think they thought I was gullible ....Fact is Castrol & Shell recommend 2 yearly changes, but only if the vehicle manufacturers don't state otherwise. In Ducati's case the break & clutch fluids are recommended to be changed every 4 years, or when the 15k service is due (whichever comes first). Coolant is also done likewise.
Dealers beware, there are intelligent, experienced bikers around!!

  17. Brake and clutch are 3 years. The new coolant from Agip is 4 years..

  18. Handbook (under Maintenance operations/checking brake and clutch fluid level) definitely states 4 years for brake & clutch....

  19. Don't have the handbook to hand, but the schedules I have show brake and clutch at 36 months?? Only Panigale is excepted and that's 24 months.
