Its time to face reality and admit my biking days may be over at 70 and 54 years riding. I just do not feel confident anymore. I got my licence back in October 2017 from a year off with epilepsy. The medication has affected my balance and I do not feel safe. Also lost 2 stone in the last 18 months and most of that is muscle. It’s not fair on the family to ignore these thoughts. Going away for 2 weeks to really think this through but I think the Desert Sled will be in the for sale section soon. I will still linger on this site if only for the jokes and random picture thread.
Sad to hear matey. Give it 18 months more, you may feel back on form and riding an older classic or an Enfield
Understand your position Richard entirely. I hope things settle with a more positive outcome for you chap
54 years in the saddle, now that's dedication for you and great memories onboard if you do decide to park up for good
If you can afford to,just park it up,ready for days when you feel up to it.Good luck with whatever you decide.
Don’t be such a lightweight. Get a lightweight. If not a classic (like a 200 single or something) then there are no end of modern lightweight small capacity bikes available. For your sanity...
In 54 years you must have had lots of wonderful experiences - I am a light weight at 51 years - tell us about some of your bikes, the best, the worst etc funniest moments etc etc
Now that’s a challenge for an old man. January 6th 1965 on my 16th birthday I rode my 80cc Suzuki to school. this was followed by various Triumph’ and BSA’s. Played in the mud riding in Trials until around 1987. Various BMW R1200 GS’s Harley’s and Norton ES2 followed up to around 2012 (post heart op) when Ducati’s came into my life. Had 2 Multistrada’s but I emptied the garage of 3 bikes in 2016 when Epilepsy took my licence away. I now regret doing that as just polishing them would have been better than an empty garage but I was devastated at the time. The last 2 years has been just the Desert Sled. The best was the BSA Lightning in 1968 when rockers hated the mods on their scooters. The worst was my Norton. It broke down every time I went out until I had the magneto rebuilt. The funniest looking back was falling off in my test during a monsoon, the examiner noticed the damage but I just said a car had pulled out on me. Still passed.
Oh bless you What about going out with a bike school as if you were taking lessons again just to build up your confidence again
You've done great to drive a huge sled at 70. I've downsized to a 350 LC cos the weight of a 748 was getting daunting as I aged, and at some stage I will prob drop down to an even lighter machine. If there wasn't a bike in the shed, I know I'd be hankering for one
I gave up last year after 57 years, came off bust my shoulder blade and buggered up my rotator cuff.couldn't even drive the bloody car.Still miss the bike but SWMBO is happy, and our springer is enjoying more walks.Do what makes you feel happy and I hope all goes well mate.
Good luck whatever your final decision - hanging around on here is a good idea, most on here don't ride anyway …………..
