Hold your nerve guys. It’s only another week till we have an announcement of the new leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party. Then we’ll have fun and games whilst he tries to establish a majority government and others in the House try to get a No Confidence motion passed. I’m still not convinced the SNP would support the Labour Party in Westminster, so there is potential for no effective government. Closing of Parliament and a General Election before 31st October 2019 would mean (Continuing) chaos with a real risk of falling out of the EU. We’ll still be firmly anchored just offshore on the European continental shelf though. Interesting times.
The house is due to finish for summer break on Thursday the 25th of July and return on Tuesday the 3rd of September. The winner, and new Prime Minister, is expected to be announced on Tuesday the 23rd of July. The following day, Wednesday July the 24th, Theresa May will speak at her final Prime Minister's Questions before heading to Buckingham Palace to resign as Prime Minister to the Queen. I wonder if they will hold the new prime minister's starting date till the following Monday when parliament will have broken up and use the deputy prime minister Liddington, to hold the roll for those few days I suspect some rascals will try and bring contention and skullduggery to that last wednesdays pmq's but are unable to do much as she will still be in post till she see's the queen
Indeed. Going to ground now until the Brexit Party takes over. Until then, you have my full permission to KMA. : o )
Our own deal? What does that even mean? There is no “our own deal”, just waiting around the corner... If we leave with No Deal, we will then fall out (overnight) of the many preferential trading agreements we have as members of the EU. We will then have to negotiate a large number of separate FTAs with anyone and everyone we can. Each of these individual FTAs could take *years* to agree, and we will be very unlikely to be offered the kind of terms we enjoyed as EU Members because: a) we’re smaller than the EU, and b) we’ll be desperate and the other parties will be well aware of that... In the meantime we could reduce tariffs to make our products more competitive under WTO, but IF WE DO, we’ll have even less leverage when negotiating those FTAs. Which bit of this whole process sounds like *A GOOD THING*??
Okay i'll humour you seeing as you have given me almost all of my nukes Well derrrr, but not as you suggest. whether we leave with a clean break/wto/free trade deal or a deal with the eu, we will still have to negotiate with others, no matter what we agree or do not agree with the eu Have you noticed we voted to leave to try something different on our own two feet but the second largest economy in the eu and bigger than the smallest 19 eu countries combined Yep, and they will also be aware we are the 5th largest economy, have immense spending power, so much so the eu are afraid to lose us as a customer and, did I mention we will be without eu beurocracy? We are on a new journey, you say less control, I say a more equal footing worldwide, again, the eu is only 27 countries I hope I've helped your struggling mind.
It’s not remotely the same: with an agreed settlement with the EU we would have a two year transition period, not fall back to WTO rules overnight. Most senior Leavers have always agreed that No Deal is the worst possible scenario. You just have no idea, so you don’t care as long as you ‘win’ (or get the most ‘Brexity’ outcome possible) That’s irrelevant. Countries will be keen to access the UK market but we will be on the back foot in any negotiations precisely because we’ve put ourselves in a weak position, and if we’ve reduced tariffs to help our struggling businesses then we’ll have even less bargaining power.
We tried to deal, the eu only wants to offer us something worse than we already have. Our options are to take it, which we'd be foolish too as most leavers and remainers agree, or leave. You can't get a deal out of someone who wants to play snap We tried to deal, the eu says no bueno, so olah, we're offski In that group of gobbledeegook words you just put out, one word stood out, WE. Not us, not the other 27, nor the eu commission but WE. Doesn't it feel great? you're getting used to it too, I can see
I repeat: (almost) everyone understands that Leaving with No Deal is the worst possible outcome. So by your logic we should reject that option too. Glad we’re agreed on that at least.
Nope, my logic is very clear Leaving with a GOOD deal was preferred, the eu are not offering one, so we are leaving on a clean break and onto a level playing field
