Given the choice between a Multistrada 1XXX V4 and a Multistrada 950 vee-twin, I might chose a BMW 1250 flat-twin
I think it’s the torque more than top end. Seriously, I’d be amazed if 2nd gear drive on the 950 wasn’t far less than the 1260, given its maybe 30% up on oomph
The 950 won't do it for me. As Bradders says, the torque is where its at, especially when loaded with luggage etc. Sure, you can keep the 950 up the revs in order to use what it has when playing solo in the lanes, which is great if thats the way you like to do things. The big appeal of the 1200/1260 for me though is how it does things with ease, including when fully loaded. If the V4 is daft money I will hang on to the enduro for a while longer and reassess what's about when I'm bored with it. Of course the v4 might be such a revelation that we all must have it at any cost, much like the 1200 was back in 2010 A bunch of my mates have been drawn across to this years GS, which looks like a cracking bike to be fair. I can certainly see the appeal of the nice blingy blue with gold wheels one
The V4 engine has different characteristics to the 1260, and only 91.5 lb-ft so already less torque! Maybe that won't do it for you either?
But people keep saying they don't want the 950 because the figures are lower than the 1260 and it's all about the torque...
Stop trolling, doesn’t suit you I’m sure they’ll move the characteristics around the Rev range to give more low and mid range and less up top. If most multi riders ride like I do, it’s the 4-6k range that’s critical.
I'm sure the V4 Multi is going to be a cracker BUT .... Cost - doubt we'll see much (any !) change out of £20k which will make insuring it 'interesting'. Multi owners use their bikes for commuting and touring. Is the Ducati V4 up to big mileages ? Will it drink fuel which isn't much use for a commuting/touring bike ? Will it be very expensive to maintain ? I've had a couple of hours on a V4s. An incredible engine that will no doubt be great in a Multi after some tweaking but I'm not convinced it's the right move in the 'real world'
tbf given the rubber marks on the second I assume it was taken before they showed him where the apex is
I was chatting to a dealer and they were saying the service costs will be higher on the V4. Changing to an upgraded exhaust on a Panigale takes 10 hours labour!
I think we can safely say its gonna be a premium offering, then add in all the extra tech like F&R radar, adaptive cruise, 7"+ display, LED this LED that, 7" travel, 17" wheel...ahem i better stop there as i'm beginning to drool
Funny thing was, when that picture was taken we were running that section of track backwards A really clever idea to use a section of track (where there's a chicane/run-through road) and make a mini circuit/loop out of it and get you to go round and round and round while the instructor stands in the middle. Then he calls you all in and gets you to go round in the opposite direction!
