Ducati have standard timings for doing things to their bikes so at least he’d see if they were taking the piss on the time taken to fix it. The hourly rate is one for the dealer and isn’t dictated by the manufacturer.
That's how they pay for warranty work isn't it, definitely a route of enquiry I'd take first. Just sounds hellishly expensive to me, unless the customer waiting area had a bedroom, was full of hookers, champagne and Class A's then at that point I'd say it was reasonable and move on
I’m sure the Ducati will have agreed rates with a dealer as to what they’ll pay for them to do warranty work on their behalf, which will be based on a number of factors that will be affected by the dealerships commercial situation (eg a dealer in london will have greater costs than say one in Bingley). Their “internal” agreed rate will be completely different to the retail rate. However the likely time to do a job will be standard.
Just because I'm already looking at spreadsheets this morning before the kids get up, and this really intrigues me how a labour figure could be anywhere near £2250 ex vat for a gearbox (subject to no hookers being involved), I thought I'd knock up this. Caveat is that they could have done more than fix a gearbox, but if they didn't the question is how many hours were booked and what the rate works out to be......Da da Daaaaaaahhhh Sweepstake time
El T, if you could see the size of the other spreadsheet I'm looking at then you'd understand, this one is childs play But yes, Im bored, but i can hear youngest daughter getting up, any minute now she'll creep through the kitchen door and ask me for a cup of tea in 3, 2, 1......
Pah, it's mere chicken feed Damo. Before I bought my 1098R, the previous owner had a Nova gearbox fitted as 3rd had become "notchy". Although he had a Nemesis TC system fitted while the bike was in the dealer, the bill was, ahem.............£8,600 and as he lived in Jersey, that was V.A.T. exempt and the total in the UK would have been £10,300. I'm happy that it has the Nova box fitted, but even happier that that bill wasn't mine. If you like spreadsheets, this is right up your alley. Enjoy.
Holy Shit That said, theres far more on those invoices than a standard gearbox repair/replacement, in fact a shit ton in parts I'm still struggling if the parts on the OP's bike were only £1000 where the rest has come from Even on that lot on yours theres only £1505 of labour, billed out for 43 hours by the looks of it so the stacks up with the £35/hr
I don't see why not, JHP gave him 10% discount on everything, although not labour, the gearbox or Nemesis system it would seem.
Yes, there is far more on these invoices than just the gearbox parts and work. But remember that to repair a gearbox entails removing the engine from the bike then more or less a complete strip down and rebuild of the engine before fitting it back into the bike. So there will be a lot of time involved and various seals and other parts necessarily replaced as part of the work. So it's never going to be a cheap job but around £2900 for the labour would mean £145/hr assuming 20 hours work.
Robarano, Would be interesting to know what was actually causing the 'notchy' third gear, and also what happened to the original gearbox parts, presumably most of which were serviceable.... Any ideas? Mr Bimble
No, I asked if the guy had it when I bought the bike. He just said it was notchy and never got it back from the dealer.
IIRC Yamaha allowed for 12 hours to replace the gearbox on the 15 model R1 recall. It took 2 full days to a good mechanic* to do the full job. Engine out, split the cases (not a cassette gearbox) and so on. * maybe is someone is specialised only on R1's can achieve a full replacement in 12 hours. Either way, the £2900 labour cost is overly excessive.
