So my DVT was in for service a couple of weeks ago and they pointed out that the front brake reservoir was leaking from the 3 o clock position as you look from above. It went back in today and they replaced the seal. After the ride home I can see it’s still very slightly leaking from the same spot. Given your experiences is this likely to get much worse (ie needs sorting now)? Or can I wait a bit to get it sorted? (It’s under warranty so I’m not paying myself).
Still leak from the Alloy caps on occasions, just a slight weep, on both my 1200 DVT and 1260, mind you that's using the same caps on both bikes. I'm sure a mod came out for this issue some time ago though .
At least I got back from the dealer (the long and twisty way too) before the rain. Else I wouldn’t have been able to detect any leak (other than my crotch).
Careful replacement and cleaning of the seal is the answer mines done it a couple of times. But dealer should know that and should sort it.
When mine started leaking, I used the opportunity to replace the brake fluid on all reservoirs as the clutch reservoir was black within only 1 year of use. Cleaned and dried seal and cap, leaving the levels between min/max. Very hard not try to tightening up the screws "a tiny bit more". And this "tiny bit more" made it leak again in a couple of days. Did the job again, without replacing the seal, just cleaning and drying it, this time used a small screw driver and not even held it from the handle, just spin by two fingers. Thought: "This won't hold it!". But it did and no leaks since last year.
The 2 screw type fixing on these reservoirs is awful.! Soon as you tighten them they cause the cap to go out of shape. Why they didn’t use a screw type top is beyond me.
I bought these, do not over tighten them. Just snug, I only use the shank of a screw diver not the handle. https://www.gothamcycles.com/Bodyworkhtml/ducati-brembo-front-brake--clutch-reservoir-caps-set.html
