We have Sykes Pickavant in work. they can be pricey Normally about 8T. Ask you local car garage for a loan. Or try a hire shop (ring first)
I know. I was making fun of you making fun of me ps.Mind you it did occur to me on several occasions there might be. I checked the parts diagram at least 3 times
I excused myself from the family earlier for an hour or so and attacked it again. Good suggestion from @Chris about the mirror behind the sprocket but none of the girls had a make-up mirror small enough to get in there so I just had to go with what I could see. Just in case I hadn't entirely cut through, and having bought another Dremel cutting disk, the last one on the shelf, (having ruined two yesterday) I had another go. Due to the angle, squeezed in behind the sprocket, and the limited work space without damaging the crankcases or seal, this disk lasted all of 30s. F**k it! Another 60 mins rubbing a hacksaw blade back and forth and after some splitting with screwdrivers and gentle taps with a hammer and punch, in answer to the answer is NO But, we have movement albeit inwards at first. As I was tapping the screwdrivers home to prise part the parts of the socket the thing started to move - hooray - but inwards, further down the shaft. At least it's loose. Thankfully the rear suspension and tie rod aren't in place so I could get a socket extension piece in from the other side, bending the sprocket, and with some gentle taps I managed to get one piece at least to move forwards. Thus, continuing the Brexit analogies we now have 52% of the sprocket about to leave the shaft. Great I think, its almost done but........ 1. The 2nd, the Remainer, piece won't budge at all 2. The Leaver piece is stuck on the edge and won't come off. It looks like the Remainer piece is holding it back due to the angle of the cuts, and, 3. Despite the fact it looks like I should simply be able to pull the things off sideways they won't budge, there's some sort of Backstop preventing them. Frustrating or what. I can only hope it's not going to take me 3 years. After purchasing more Dremel bits tomorrow, I shall make more cuts to cut each of the Remainer and Leaver half - divide and conquer. The saga continues
When I eventually get it off I'm going to offer it for sale on here; 'One second hand 14T front sprocket, fits 748/916/996/998. No wear on the teeth, only 3500 miles.' I'll keep quiet about it being in 2 halves
