You'll struggle drilling a front sprocket. I bought a new Renthal sprocket and the retaining holes hadn't quite been threaded all the way through so that the bolts wouldn't go in on the side required (went in fine on the rear). I tried to cut the thread through the last couple of turns using a tap but there was no way it was going due to the hardness. In the end I sent it back to Renthal for a replacement.
Using decent drill bits and taps should do it. I would also use 3 taps to do it nice and slowly. The number of times I have had to help people get a broken plug tap out of an incomplete thread. Plug as in type of tap, not a spark plug tap.
Cut no.3 is scheduled for 10am Wednesday morning ...... but please don’t forewarn the Sprocket; keep schtum No, but have thought about making some C4 or borrowing some Semtex and squeezing it into the gap where the cuts are in the sprocket, then insert the detonator, lay the fuse cable and BOOM . That’ll get the fooker off I’ve knackered one sprocket puller already. Nice suggestion but it’s just a bigger sprocket puller. If you're really not going to try again until Wednesday, suggest giving it a good soaking with your favourite releasing agent (diesel, WD40 (although I'm not sure that's really a penetrating agent) etc)...
The tension is really building and the three day wait won't help that at all.
