Been toying with a getting a Tamburini ducati for a while and managed it this weekend. Ride back from Rugby was effing cold but pretty much all dry so not much cleaning required when I got back. Been on V Twins for 15 years (Firestorm, Firebolt, 1125R and RC8) and today's ride has shown that the Ducati doesn't disappoint. Smoother and more useable low down than the 1125R and RC8 (where >3K RPM is a must at all times), perhaps due to the smaller capacity. Still some fiddling required with the setup but that can wait for a little warmth. Some questions for those knowledgeable:- One/both of the front discs are slightly warped - any recommendations for replacements? Fuelling appeared a little 'fluffy' at times, but improved with some super unleaded in the tank. The bike has carbon termis on. Am I right in thinking there is 'chip' available for the ECU. What is the script with this and how do I get the right one? Ta in advance
Hello and welcome, those with far better tech knowledge will be along soon to help, but you could also ask the question in the tech help section.
Hello and welcome, where in the NW are you? with regards to your questions... a) discs - I'd always recommend original brembo items but they'll cost you £££ B) fueling - yes there's a chip that fits into the ECU under the seat however it may be best to ship it off to someone like JHP (who make their own chips) and have the TPS and such like set according to your setup.
Freak ta for the responses. I am in the Preston area and was afraid that Original items would be the right way to go!
Hello and welcome. Disc, EBC pro lites are very good, but yes Brembo if you can afford them. Regarding the ECU, its always worth speaking to a dealer first
The front disc`s could be sticking on the bobbins semi and full floating types that they are carried on try freeing them off and see if it improves the feel. brian.
....hmmm I was having similar thoughts at work today I may give them a rattle and see if anything improves
I have golfer waveys front and rear on my 996 and I think they are great, stopping power is excellent and IMHO looks good to
Hi Jez - look forward to pictures (red or yellow?). Re: discs - I think above has covered most - are you getting 'warped' feedback via lever? - Brembo are good unless you want to go to cast but although an improvement (with right compound pads) bobbins need more attention for binding/wear overall. It's not unusual to get occasional 'stumble' sensation around 3K but reasons are a plenty. Best you can do is ascertain that engine state and tuning is tip-top and also try and confirm that ECU chip is well matched to Termi's. Your two per pot injectors supply at the same time rather than sequentially and in certain conditions this is a little too much. There was an aftermarket chip which effectively disabled one injector and this was a 'qualified' improvement confirming that two on a std engine wasn't really necessary. A Power Commander is another route that i know some have used successfully but you shouldn't have to got to this resort to effect a satisfactory cure.
Chris the bike is red....I didn't know they did any other colour ;-) I have managed to pick up some 2nd hand Brembo discs, 4mm rather than the 5mm standard......need to research the difference (apart from a little unsprung weight)......perhaps should have done that before commiting money but only realised that the standard was 5mm when I check my bike after placing the order. Interesting about the injectors, I didn't know that. With the Super unleaded in the fuelling was far better so we'll see what the slightly warmer weekend brings....looking forward to getting out for a ride or two.
