1098 1098r - R Is For Ridiculous

  1. How I feel.

    TBH, my neck was annoying me, not the bike. I was comfortable enough on it in every other way (apart from the rock hard suspension having me out of the seat over the bumps and crushing my gentleman's space hopper on a few occasions) :worried:. Just the bike is way too much for the road, or the roads I was on anyway. But still great fun. :grinning:

  2. Hard to say. It had a NOVA gearbox fitted and Nemesis TC at the same time on the same bill. The owner also bought the pistons and supplied them. :thinkingface:
     
  3. Rock hard suspension :worried: have a bounce on mine (1098R:bucktooth:) it's even more solid o_O
     
  4. I doubt it. o_O Mine's got the Ohlins upgrade and is set up for the track, it doesn't bloody move. :worried:

  6. I had a 1098s, rock hard suspension, i started setting it up for the local roads and ended up with the suspension really soft, the bike was suddenly a weapon that you could ride. Hard is good on track and shite on roads. I also replaced the brake pads with sbs pads that had a soft bite, this was after scrapping a 1098 in a panick brake situation.

Yeah - but...i think youll agree....its what keeps you feeling young (tis for me) like yours mine stays in the garage most of the year round...up til this year got used for the TT for the last 8 or so and a couple of trips otherwise.....but, when it comes out to play...its an occassion...theres no other word for it...

  9. I would suggest for anyone with M4's - go to M50's you dont get any more braking power but, you get progressive feel which is brilliant.

I was riding at about 60 daydreaming when i went over a brow of a hill and there was a corner i wasnt expecting, i panicked and grabbed the brake washed out and wrecked the bike and myself, if id been hammering on id have been reading the road and would have spotted the bend well ahead. Lesson learnt.

  13. Mine's that hard it can be difficult to focus into the distance as you are being shaken about so much more than a softer bike. o_O Mind you, the sun brought out some idiots today plus the cyclists who think they now own the road. :mad:

  15. In my last few weeks of suspension messing...i found that if i soften the rear on mine too much when exiting corners it tends to squat and then weave out of corners...im starting to learn that its finding the compromise between the two thats the trick!!
     
  16. I meant Robo. Bikes should be as soft as they can be given the function they are fulfilling. Notice how much the MGP bikes dove or squat even when at standstill.
     
  17. I should have it set up for the road really. I just left it the way it was when I bought it. I'm a "just ride the thing" type bloke. :grinning:
     
  18. Can’t be that enjoyable tho. I love scaring myself when riding, but not at lower speeds because the bikes out of control!

    Imho just set rider sag front and rear on slightly softer side, so maybe 45mm front and 30mm rear, and see how that feels :) it’s 20 min activity with a mate helping (pricing you can access rear preload)

  19. Dont you have to keep squat to a minimum though @bradders ? or, is it good to have "some"?
     
  20. If you are throwing 100% gas out of every corner, maybe. But for road riding ;) I know the basics others will know more. But under acceleration the rear actually lifts not squats (watch a dyno run) skits balancing forces that’s the witchcraft!
