  4. Hooray for the ridiculous bikes. Hooray for the bonkers bikes. Hooray for the bikes that don’t make any sense at all. Hooray for the bikes that make your heart pump and make the adrenaline flow.

Hooray for the bikes that make you smile when the aches and pains say you should be doing otherwise.

You know you can’t sell ‘em. It’s only bits of paper with the Queens head on that would slip unnoticed between your fingers. Resulting in a lifetime of regret.

I had a go on Bazzers 999R. That missile cut it’s way through corners like a hot scalpel through butter. You just had to think about the bend and it went round it with absolute precision. Fandabbydoubledozo.

Hooray for a thread about bikes.

  5. I loved riding my 1198 yes it was a bit of a pig under 50mph but the noise of it was just mental, shame it started to fall apart though. Was becoming increasingly difficult to stay in love with it. Maybe a 1098r could be on the cards next if I sell my pani to @bradders

  6. Both are true actually. I sold it because I had a huge tax bill to pay and newer bikes were winning the outright power and technology game.

The bike was completely standard but could out-drag an 1199S and to this day I still haven’t improved my lap time that I set on the 1098R at one particular track. For 2 years I’ve been using an ex-BSB bike with over 200PS but the torque of the R suited that flowing, no hard braking track.

  7. I was recently launched off my 999 in a panic brake situation.
I had swapped my pads for EBC HH for the extra bite. If I'd only stuck with the original pads, the rear wheel would never have locked and the bike and I would both have been fine. IMHO, brakes powerful enough to overcome the grip of the tyres need abs. Abs would have completely prevented my crash.

  8. That doesn’t surprise me at all.
For.me it’s very hard to ride . The engine is just massive and basically no rider aids compared to modern bikes and no disrespect to your mate but the better the rider the more a rider will get out of an R .

  9. These reports of vicious front brakes , and groinally challenging suspension don't put me off in the slightest .

I'm just itching to join in with the " ridiculousness"
    ( that's not really a proper word , is it )

Picture Vic Reeves rubbing his sweaty palms on his trouser legs ...
.... that perfectly sums up my feelings toward this particular motorcycle
    Ha !

Thinking back , the Vincent Black Shadow had the same effect on me
in my teens ..... when a BSA C15 was the best I could afford ..... :)

  11. Not true. The 1098R takes a high skill set to ride fast, but in the right hands a 1098R is a proper weapon and will cut it with all the modern stuff. It may run out of puff on straights exceeding 800 meters against modern stuff but that’s about it.
I’ve noticed you’ve become a bit of a bimmer fan boy and Ducati hater lately :)

  14. Nah not really. Certainly not a hater, just don’t have rose tinted glasses.

The guy I’m thinking of (mate of a mate really) was a leading national endurance rider, so looking Cadwell 1’30 type pace, front end bemsee and thundersport. Had all the rider aids you can bolt on.

It’s just that all modern sports bikes, from 2004 on really, are just ridiculous to ride!

I’d still like one tho ;)

  15. Just to add, if it hadn’t been for the deal to swap in for a new bike, I’d have probably had another new multi.

  16. Have any of you tried a Monster? I'm thinking of changing to a Monster 1200R because of my neck problem.

  17. I put Helibars on my 999 and they helped my neck enormously.
Worth a try if you love everything else about the bike
