Anybody have them? Worth using? I have R&G bar end sliders and was thinking of these eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace or eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace I have a predisposition for dropping my bikes.
First ones don't seem much good - replace existing fairing bolt. Hmmm... none of the fairing bolts mount on anything particularly robust.
Yeah, there isn't really crash protectors for SS series from 91 to 98, so anything is screwed into fairing. Was hoping someone had experience with them and if the bike were dropped or in a low slide the bobbins would grind down and take some of the impact.
I had those very ones on my bike for some time, as has already been said, they don't attach to anything stong enough to work! Don't waste your money not worth it
I have a spare set of those, so as said don't waste your dosh on them.....if you want them, send a PM. But they are worse than f-in useless....two go in the frame to fairing stubs that you have just acquired.....the stubs held on by a 6mm stud.....strong...Not!.... and two others go onto the frame where the seat fairing mounts, held on by well nuts.......Yeah right, really substantial..... ...plus it make your bike look like it has skateboard wheels bolted on.... Still....if you still want them, they are here. AL.
You not have any strong feelings for these then Al? When you put such a positive spin on them, I think I'll give them a miss. Cheers gentlemen, always helpful! And quite amusing too!
Aww you can't spoil an SS with bungs There so not fashionable They do slide well mind I heard somewhere I may be wrong that they can cause more damage that there worth??
There are only two 'forward' locations (as far as I am aware) the SS can have bungs fitted......one is in the fairing support stub that sticks out from the frame, which is basically a bit of pipe held onto a thin strip in the frame by a 6mm stud.....if the bike went down the road with them in that position, the bung would drag the stub over and bend the strip in the frame...possibly even bend the frame and drag the fairing off. The other position is through the fairing and into the forward engine to frame bolting location......in my view, they are too low and would cause the bike to flip onto a higher point on the bike, mainly in the nose area, including the clip-ons, which would get slammed back against the stops and possibly cause headstock and frame damage. The other point bungs were fitted, were in the forward seat fairing bolt holes....(well nut location)....absolutely pointless.....the zorsts would hit the deck long before the bungs did anything....if anything at all, apart from fall off, having ripped out the well nuts. AL
There is a way of doing it, if you have a look at the following link, first picture you can see how a half fared bike can do it, how us fully faired do it is another matter, without much drilling and cutting of panels (not for me!) http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f4/ss-gallery-68/
First lot of pics is my carby. Adapted SS IE bungs, was a faff though? ** Easier to find Monster crash bungs on eBay etc? DUCATI MONSTER GSG MOTO CRASH BUNGS | eBay Nope, in a high-speed crash they will not save my bike - NOTHING will! A low speed slide/drop they should do a good job of keeping red paint off the floor? Some would say not a good look for the SS? I would say neither is roadrash on my panels. I cannot guarantee I will never drop my bike, aided or unaided - so have fitted bungs.
They are basically the second location I refer to......they will jack the bike onto it's nose / clip-ons.......and if the thump is hard one, bang goes the engine casting. AL.

Closer to the engine are better, less leverage, less likely to pitch the bike onto the higher parts.....but who would want white skateboard wheels on the side of their bike anyway? I 'dropped' mine when they were fitted (got caught out by the neutral light and let the clutch out as I got off....tw*t) the bungs didn't come close to touching the deck, but the full SS fairing did at the lower 'kink'......but that kept the zorst off the ground. AL
When dizzy went down the road she ground down the fairings so the vent was just a hole the stand went and so did the gear lever the damage that wrote her off were the two dents in the tank otherwise she was ok
With the bungs fixed to the frame/engine mount and a full tank of fuel, I reckon it will tip further than you expect.....and hit the top of the bike. AL
Should have left your leg there Viv, and saved the bike......(where are the smilies?....I want to have a wink) AL.
