It’s a lot cheaper to get a mate. My daughter #2 helps me. An Öhlins c spanner is a good investment. Much better than a drift!
can you start a thread to talk us through using tools to adjust front and rear suspension please Paul? (I'm hoping nothing is seized of course)
Just to ask the question - if you had one of those (the slacker tool) you still have to use it to get measurements, so you'd have to take a reading from it extended, then the bike sat on its own and then with you on it....all the videos i just looked at didnt do any of that...they just said "thats the sag!" which i didnt really understand - or am i being thick here?
Yes you are. Lol. Only a joke because it was lined up Seems like it just let’s you do it on your own. So add magnets (measuring points) and lift bike for full travel, let rest on wheels for static, it must take a reading, then sit on and another reading (it must know the starting fully extended point) eh voila: sag number Cheaper to buy a mate a beer
Johnny no mates here I’m going to have to persuade SWMBO to spend some time with me in the shed. That’ll be a bit like persuading BoJo to vote Labour Nowt yet Mind you postage to you would be cheap, same island and all. Just for that I will photograph my trusty screwdriver and hammer tomorrow I’m not sure I understand you Comfy, you connect it once then use it to measure static and rider sag, front & rear. Once you’ve the basic measurements you can adjust to suit. I first saw it here
True, I just need to find a mate But if you’ve a few bikes and want to play around with the settings your mate might get a bit bored
We've said this many times haven't we. If you feel you can play with suspension confidently then there is plenty of advice on trying, if you're not that comfortable then the suspension specialists are far cheaper than I think most people realise and can be the best money spent on any bike Congrats on the new forum for suspension help
^ agree 100%. £30 / £40 for an hour of some professional suspension bloke’s time is the best money you can spend on the bike. For those with 748/998 bikes, this is what Alpha suspension in Leeds did for mine last time. Ohlins front and rear. 90Kg rider.
That’s all fine and dandy and well worth the money and works when one lives in a populated area where these services are on hand. Wish I had that near me. However through my own choice I don’t. Nearest specialist is Dublin, 10hr round trip. Hence an Amazon delivery may work out cheaper overall for me. Anyway I’m only thinking about the Sag curry thingy coz I like gadgets. Probably will just start with SWMBO and/or a friend
In the wild west of Ireland you should be making your own gauges out of discarded fenceposts - man up Paul
What a great idea. Thanks Harry. I’ve got some redundant electric fence posts and cable behind the shed, I’ll drag them out and see if I can’t make up some sort of rig. Just need some baler twine now. Thanks a mill Harry.
Redundancies? We haven't even left the EU yet, calm down. ObTopicalPost: I always hated the 748/916, etc ride height adjustment system. Silly SSSA bodges.
We don’t have that kind of service up here in the mountains either and I don’t use amazon. Plenty of wood available though to make a natty tool for measuring sag and adjusting preload. Do I win £5? Someone drop that Dave Moss a line with my money saving invention. I’m sure he knows his shit but he could talk a glass eye to sleep!
Hmmm not sure you’d get much sag with that old fashioned wooden suspension unit. ps PM me you’re email pls, I’ve a parcel for you. Cheers.
