Hi all, i'm new on here. I have a 1998 916, It doesnt get out much due to work commitments but its immaculate, only done 14,000 km's and i'll never sell it. I have recently relocated and not ridden it for nearly a year. after taxing,insuring and changing petrol in it i went out on it today but there is a clicking noise from the front end. It sounds like forks but not on the compression stroke, it clicks 4 or 5 times on the up stroke?. The fork seals have not been replaced whilst ive had it (7 years) and there is a tiny, tiny bit of oil on the leg after several compressions but hardly a thing. could it be due to old fork oil or low oil level? Its due its MOT next week and would like to get it fixed before, i dont know whether it'd be an MOT failure or not? Any help would be gratefuly acepted. I'll post some pics of it up shortly Thanks
hold the front brake in and give the bike a gentle 'rock' forward and backwards to check the head stock bearings.
Mine was making a knocking noise also it ended up being a plastic cone in the bottom of one of the forks that went. I had them revalved/rebuilt and serviced.
Thanks guys, its definately the suspension rather than the headstock. I'll ring the dealer tomorrow and price up a fork overhaul. they might as well MOT it whilst its there. Thanks again
190 quid including setting them up for my weight. It was a place in keithley called firefox racing.I think service was 100 then extra for revalving and rebuilt with ktec shims. I was recommended them by a friend who has his bike set up there. I'm pleased with the work they did and seems to be a good shop.
