Hello everyone Newbie here after having only passed my test last year, currently doing IAM advanced. I currently own a Yamaha Fazer 600 but am going to view a Multistrada tomorrow that I'm considering buying. Having no real knowledge of bikes and Ducatis I wondered if there was anything specific I need to ask/look for? It's s Multistrada 1200 S DVT on a 15 plate. Has all the touring bits and bobs too. We've negotiated £7750 (I don't know if this is a good deal) I've never ridden anything other than my Fazer and the Kawasaki ER6N I learned on, but went round Europe on my own last month and so am looking for something fast I can play with on weekends but also tour the country with too (Norway next year). I'm a female rider so but worried about height/weight. Also test riding a Yamaha MT10, Speed Triple R, Honda Africa Twin, and KTM Duke 790. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks
Service history is important, updates or recalls done and what is the next service and when?! For example the 15000mile service is an expensive one. It will be HUGELY different to ride from what you have ridden already...be prepared. Hope you have long legs !! Good luck and be prepared to walk away...there are plenty around- I have a 2010 model which is different to a DVT and love it!
Welcome along Dr It’s a tall bike so check you are comfortable Looks to have lots of bits with it Great bikes if it fits you will love it
Sounds a very good price! If the history stacks and recalls done, and no signs of it being crashed, sounds a bargain
As mentioned the 15000 mile service is expensive, make sure you have at least a grand tucked away to pay for it. Fuel gauges and heated grips can fail otherwise should prove reliable. I'm not a fan of the Hondas suspension. TB
Oh and you haven't mentioned mileage but if the mileage is good then that looks like a great price. From the pics it looks like you're getting panniers and the termi exhaust as well which make the price you've got seem even better! As previously mentioned, it'll be different from the honda but they aren't a difficult bike to ride if you can reach the ground.
Just to point out the bike in the picture has the seat on the high setting, you can also get a lower seat if necessary. Price seems good, depending on milage. As other said a full service history is important, plus knowing about any warranty claims that were made (always a good indication on how the bike has been looked after). Welcome to the club (if you buy it)
Hi everyone and thanks for the messages. It's done 15,000 miles and he tells me it's fully serviced and wants for nothing. He's selling it due to an injury he has.
Take someone experienced with you Bex. I usually do when looking at a used bike and I’m dead old and been at it a loooooong time. I hope it’s a good un, they’re fantastic bikes. Welcome and good luck
Good price, especially for an S model, though dependant on mileage, service history and general condition. As mentioned above, raised seat can be taken down easily by unscrewing the plastic riser from the bottom of the rider seat. There should be a spacer included that then fills the gap between that and the pillion seat.
So will be due an 18k big service, but may be that’s kind of factored in the price given what it’s available for.
Long legs and muscles in them recommended for this bike. Is there a Top box included? Looks like it has the rails and base plate for a Ducati/Givi Top box.
welcome drbex, now wtf is IAM advanced. This isn't that bullshit where they fool members into doing multipal courses or reciprocal training. I left after 4+years as a member because the charity is/was becoming a financial farce of moving money & hiding it from the tax man. What price was the seller asking originally?
Hi Dr I’ve got a 14 plate pikes peak Once it’s in sports mode there won’t be too many bikes overtaking you It’s a beast ! The Africa twin will far too underpowered compared to the duc I’ve been all over Europe on mine As others have said it’s a tall bike fell off mine 3 times all at standing still Dodgy dips in road surface etc If doing a lot of touring I’d buy another seat on eBay just got one for £40 then have it turned into a real comfy seat just for that purpose
