1200 Pannier Rack

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Edward Cunliffe, Sep 4, 2019.

  1. Just bought a 1200 Enduro and it had this rack on it with the Multistrada badged panniers but it's too far forward and fouls the passenger footrests. Is this for the MTS perhaps, rather than the Enduro?

No maker's marks on it and the welding is awful but it's strong enough. Anyone want it?

  2. Doesn't look like a Touratech bit. Some of their welding is a bit sketchy TBH. I ended up with the Givi Trekker Outback panniers on my MTS. Thumbs up for those.

  3. Hi,
Id be interested. How much do you want for it?

can i just confirm, when you say it fouls the footrest, do you mean it touches them, or it makes them hard to use for a pillion?

    Regards

  4. Hi, is it just the rack or the panniers as well you're interested in?

The left pillion peg has had a bit ground off it so the panniers fit on, a pillion would only be able to use their heels on the pegs.

  5. Ah i see. I apologise, I didn't read correctly. I have an Enduro too, but I never have a pillion. I thoughts it was just making the footpads difficult to use, not rubbing on them. Apologies.
I would be interested in how much you want for the panniers.

  6. Umm, I'll have a think, lock barrels would be an issue as they're the same as my bike key ...

  7. Ok, no probs. I'm in no particular rush.

  8. I'm near York if you (or anyone) is interested in looking at them ... they come with inner bags for the panniers plus a ground down footrest (free). But what to do about the keys?

  9. You could always let the buyer have a picture of the key and they could get one cut by the guy on Ebay.

  10. Thank you, yes I believe you can, and these are the standard Multistrada badged panniers. I'll have s look at that today. It's just the rack that's dodgy but it seems you can't buy the complete rack on its own.

  11. Interesting idea!

  12. Though that would mean I also had the key to someone else's panniers ...

  13. Very odd that the metal frame is so far forward.

You can push the locks out of the pannier clips. It is a bit fiddly to do but you can do it.
At least that way you keep the locks if you or the next owner wants to fit panniers again, rather than buying another lock set at ~£100

FYI From new the enduro comes with a lock set that fits the metal panniers. The normal mts comes with locks that fit the shaped plastic panniers.
The two locks are different (one has a square end, the other has an oval end, and they are different lengths), and there are more locks for the metal panniers too.
    Hope that helps.

  14. Good info thank you. I assume the frame is for the MTS not Enduro.

  15. No, the 'normal' mts does not need a frame for the plastic panniers, only the metal cases do.
And in practice the rear loop of both bikes is identical, so the metal cases and mounting frame can be used on a non enduro version just the same as plastic cases can be used on an enduro.

That metal frame you have will undoubtedly fit both, but I don't recognise who it is from.
All I can think of is someone (i.e. the previous owner of your bike) wanted the panniers further forward for a better balanced bike.

  16. Thank you for further info John, maybe the frame is a homebrew job that went a bit wrong. The left pillion footpeg frame had a bit ground off so the panniers would fit on, fine if solo but no good for a pillion.

    Cheers,
    Ed

P.S. Panniers, pannier bags, frame, and ground down footpeg are for sale if anyone wants 'em.
