A warning to those of you who have fitted one of Alan's uprated sidestand bolts. I had a problem with the bolt and sent him a PM to let him know, but got no reply A few weeks a go I became aware of the bike leaning over further than normal and grabbing a hold of the sidestand I could feel a lot of movement at the pivot. When I came to dismantle it I found the the uprated bolt is made up of 2 parts; a shouldered nut which forms the sleeve, and a threaded stud. Despite the pivot being well greased on assembly there must have been enough friction to cause the sleeve part to unscrew from the stud, which is locked to the fixed pivot plate when assembled. I've put it back together really tightly and with Loctite but if it happens again I'll consider drilling a hole through the shoulder and fitting a small roll pin to prevent it from unscrewing.
Sorry to hear that Derek, yes they are made in two pieces but I was assured by the guys making them they have plenty of loctite in them. I've not been watching the forum for a few weeks Any idea why it came loose? Alan
I think it's inherent in the design really. The stud gets locked to the side stand pivot plate by the locknut on the back. Any friction will try to rotate the sleeve. I did apply lots of grease when I fitted it. So in the case of mine maybe the stud wasn't loctited securely enough into the sleeve or perhaps the loctite got missed. Whatever, it's ok now but I'll be keeping an eye on it. As long as it stays tight, it's certainly stronger than the OEM bolt.
Hi guys So Ducati made the original bolt but who ever designed it Could cost us all a lot of money for a stupid mistake Well done for finding this out before it's too late mate I check mine tomorrow
Rouleur46, I have one if your interested. I got one to use on my 2013 but ordered a DVT so never fitted it.
Hi, that would be great, can you please email me and I an sort payment & postage out with you. [email protected] Thanks Andrew
