The rev is also seeking to have a scottish ukip party as the official scottish ukip party has been promising indi 2 for many years and nothing has happened is this article little more than a forthcoming new party pledge?
he isnt actually. he is and has been putting the feelers out there and looking to start his own party. a scottish liberal party. dude, can you get nothing right. even when he his arguments suport yours you proclaim the opposit. crazy kid.
His scenarios are varied and thought provoking. One that he didn't mention was the idea that Scotland would be granted sweeping extra powers and Indi 2 taken off the table in a Lab & SNP pact (agreed behind the scenes). Its an obvious plan as its that or certain Independance within a few years in anycase. Plus the Greens. They are much more likely to support Lab than Con, and there may be quite a few votes for them next time.
tho the SNP are v,gradulist in their approch to indi, that ship has saied. we know the torys are the one nation party. their looking to make the three other nations all part of greater england. since labour conception they have been the party of home rule. yet, after they started getting electoral success they have roled back big time. they only offered devolutuion because of pressure from the EU. they headed better togeather, promised the earth, the most powerfull devolved gov on the plannet. then, after the result. blocked pretty much every power including tax raising powers coming to scotland bar income tax. i doubt v,much the party, let alone the country will put any faith in what labour say or offer.
I agree partly though Labour did enact devolution which regardless of EU pressure or otherwise would not have happened under the Tories. The Scots voters & SNP will have a choice. Zero or worse from the Tories or a chance to try a pact with Labour. They have little to lose as they can withdraw from a coalition at any point. Some could say it might damage their standing, but it might also lead to better things too.
not sure about that. i think i posted on here recently, deffo the past a memo from the EU to tony blaire or maybe wisisname thretening the uk with expulsion if they didnt give all the nations an oppertunity to vote for devolution.
I wonder if fin will agree with me For a England labour person to understand Scottish politics they need some understanding. As much as most parties try to hate the tories (jealousy mostly) to understand the snp's and labour's situation in Scotland, you need to think, arsenal and tottenham, manchester united versus liverpool or even celtic versus rangers There is a deep deep dislike and distrust particularly from the snp towards scottish labour and vice versa. Can they put that aside knowing within months an election will take place and it will be seized upon by both of their oppositions and will it impact certianly the snp, in a way it hit the lib dems in coalition with the tories?
Really - I have never heard that so thanks. Then again looking at the EU, it seems that they are not at all keen on countries leaving the bloc, so would the threat have amounted to much?
i had been hearing this on and off for years but hadnt seen or bothered my ass to check. where do you stop? but i will ask sombody in the know next time see someone with the knoledge to confirm that memo.
I think it's about time the U.K. took the gloves off Boris should be saying so it's clear as day, The U.K. values and respects the republic of Ireland and respects it wishes to be in the eu in the same way we hope they respect that we have voted to leave With that in mind and to clear up any ambiguity, we wish all parts of Ireland to understand, the British government views the good friday agreement as absolute. The good Friday agreement is a peace accord, registered with the united nations as a peace agreement to see that respected. The British government will always view the good friday agreement as one of the most important agreements in our joint history and would never see it as a lesser document than a trade agreement
so much talk of hate and it could be a self fulfilling prohpency. its probably a hard concept for you to understand. we have a PR Government. it was specifically designed to avoid majority Govs. that means partys have to be mature enough to work and govern togeather. pre truthless it wqrked quite well. conssesions where saught and won for Annibell Goldie and the other oppostion. like i said, that was pre ruth. she braught a nastness to parliment, but any hate was propogated by the press protecting her, her MSP's and her councillors. the football analogy is one i used on here several years ago. part of the gig used by the partys and press these days, maybe always, but worse, now that facts can be so easily verified. then, sombody braught it on here... then of course you have the recent westminster select committees finding on devolutuin. they concluded that westminster, essentialy hasent got a clue how it works including whats reserved and whats not, and how one power can be interfeered with another. perssonnaly i dont beleive that. i think they intensionally muddy the waters. the reasons for the distrust are obvious. labour lost their dominance. people started looking at labours history in scotland more deeply. things like the McCrone report, there involvment, along with the torys in nurturing secretarionasem, the Bain Priciple and their roll in better togeather, which leads people to start questioning the press ect. i cant see a way back for them. i see it being all down hill untill they accept the enevitable.
