Norton Deposit Info, It's Demise & It’s New Owners

  1. 6 weeks on and the supposed RR news is still yet to land. I bet they won't be this slow on updating us all when our payments are due :thinkingface:
    My must-buy-this-bike meter is slipping back towards cant-be-arsed again :rolleyes:
     
  2. there was an almost totally carbon-clad (maybe they are all like this?) example at Super Sausage Pottersbury yesterday, didn't take a picture though. :rolleyes:




    Keith/ @900streetfighter did though . I tried to post the picture, which appeared, twice but when I went to save, it disappeared, twice.

  3. My understanding is that the vast majority of V4's produced so far have been the carbon version due to paint issues. Chrome ones are now coming out of the factory though.
     
  4. That's interesting news gizmo, since I am after a chrome one.
    At the beginning of the year they had reverted to wrapping them, but I understood they were back to painting again, having fixed their processes.
    The problem is, if you chip the paint it is almost impossible to do anything with.
    In reality they are still the exact same carbon panels, just painted/wrapped, and actually costs more than the bare carbon as a consequence.

  5. I'm looking for chrome too and I'm contemplating a protective film wrap, at least to the leading edges. Going to have to get that done as a bespoke job though as I don't expect anyone to have a template for the Norton.

  7. Anyone have any comments on the recent MCN article regarding the 5m investment Norton are asking for to help fund the new factory build? Also watched a recent video of Mr Garner doing his usual promotion waffle on the V4ss at the "Churchill shooting country event" saying that the limited edition V4ss where all sold and would be delivering them all in the next 6mths!! The NEC bike show is not that far off now and i'm curious to know what you would say to Mr Garner if you came face to face with him on the Norton stand regarding all the false hopes that the company has spewed out over the last 3yrs, not to mention the disrespectful customer relations?
     
  8. I'd ask him to credit his customers with some intelligence and tell them the truth about timescales, delays and issues. I would also ask him to ensure that people who have given them large interest free loans (deposits) are properly communicated with and updated regularly. Lastly, I would ask him to hurry up and finish my bike. Waiting for your dream bike should be utterly exciting and not demoralising and frustrating.

  9. I've tried to communicate with him, both by email to the factory, and by twatter.
    I appreciate he must have a bunch of contacts and enquiries, but if he can't do it he should employ someone to take care of it.
    I would ask a bunch of questions:
    - what went wrong at the IOM TT, and how are they addressing this for customer bikes. This is a potentially big Quality Assurance issue.

    - given its taking so long to receive a bike in the first place, what provision has been made for warranty replacement parts. My big concern is the custom engine design, the bores are integral to the crank cases, what happens is you drop a piston or break a ring...

    - can they provide details of how the funding for the bikes paid in full has been held/spent, and show its not already been spent ahead of the bikes being built (if all their orders dried up now, can they fulfil their current order book, or to what extent are they factoring the funding)

    - why can't they share something as simple as a build stage with those that have ordered (especially those that have paid in full), like every other manufacturer can (order a car /van / bike and once its registered with the manufacturer the dealer can tell you chassis number and build stage, plus expected start and delivery date)

    - promising an update is hollow unless it actually materialises. This is frustrating to the expectant customers, and as time goes on will likely disengage those who have waited.

    - Those that have ordered are supporting the business, so show them some respect and keep them informed. It is far too easy to switch a supporter into a detractor, and despite what the saying might say, bad news is not good for business. They want to be supporters, so feed them good news to spread on a regular basis, rather than failing to deliver (not only bikes, progress updates too), leaving them to discuss why this might be.

    - not everyone buying these bikes is a rich person who will park it in their office. Some actually want to ride it, and the bike will be a huge chunk of money to them.

    In my view saying the above would be pointless though. If he doesnt already know it I would be surprised. What he needs is some key personnel to bring the business to a point where it can deliver current and prospective customers expectations, or at least inform them of pertinent facts on a regular basis.
    Knowing they are building the factory is great, but its not getting me any closer to my bike, since the factory was not built for the V4SS or V4RR.

    I can't help wondering just how many of the SS's they have really completed / delivered. How many left is still only showing 17 bikes (but this has no data after Q1 this year)
     
  11. About 120 or so I am told - although if this is correct I find the lack of online information and discussion about them odd. If there are a "fair few" out in the wild I would expect there to be people taking pictures, reviewing or just generally showing off that they had them.

I have found that normally if you persist you will eventually find that bit of information or point of interest somewhere on the internet ( Whatever the subject might be) as i regularly try to do with this bike and am still finding zero content! In my recent post the 5m investment Norton are asking for to help fund the factory build was taken from the MCN article dated 30th August ,yet Mr Garner says "the factory should be completed by the end of september" or was that quote from an older article that John uploaded?

  14. Gutted for him, no-one wants that sort of notoriety! On the plus side, after we all complained that there wasn't anything out there in interweb land talking about the V4, there are plenty of people discussing this all over Twitter and Facebook!

  18. I wondered if he stalled it. That instant stop when you don't expect it, I've very nearly dropped a bike when that happened.

    Dropped the KTM a few months back because I didn't put the sidestand all the way down : unamused:. Got off, then suddenly I was underneath it :joy:
